A Touch of Magic

I am going to do you a favor dev, read Reluctant Archon. It has done this, but better so you can easily get a sense of how these types of stories can be structred better and have better written characters. This avn has very beautiful models, one of the best I have seen. The story also in theory is acually pretty great. But every time I play this game, I am like what is the point of this avn. Every avn needs something to hold it up, it can be sex scenes, fetishes, great story, beautiful relationships, action or an op mc. This story has nothing. I saw a review below sayong the mc is not a wimp, while that is technically true, he has little agency. He isnt proactive, things just happen to him. It makes me wonder why any of the LIs like him. Anthea fights for him, his mom confronts his dad for him. Can he not do anything himself? He does not need to be op or anything, but he should be competent. I do not want to read an avn of a man child with no skill what so ever. This has potential to be one of the greatest fantasy avn since we do not have that much, but you have to give me something bruh, something that would make me want to read. The interactions between the LIs are great, they have personality and they make me chuckle. The dev is going for a slow burn, as much as i hate slow burns, it doesnt bother me here. Do something about the mc, make him smart, or skilled or make him solve his own problems or something, like I need a reason to read.

I have to say, I'm a bit shocked this doesn't have more attention. + Characters models are mostly very attractive + MC is charismatic (albeit way too cocky/joking at the beginning) + Story is moving along at a decent pace so far (I'm fairly early on though, it might slow down) + lots of tension/opportunities. + it's taboo, which here is kind of hot, but I can see some not enjoying it. +- lots of LIs/characters, not sure if that's a good thing, but I'm okay with it. there are a number of side LIs as well. +- a TON of lore drops without any explanation. Some of it gets explained eventually, and honestly for me, I didn't mind not having the story grind to a halt everytime they had a new magic word/lore to explain. I'd much rather pick it up as it goes, which this does. - grammer issues - Some of the dialogue repeats oddly. Example: you'll see two people having a discussion of a topic and then 5 minutes later they'll have almost the exact same conversation as if it's new information. - sex scenes are very heavy on dialogue but light on renders, making it a bit awkward. - out of nowhere 0 - 100 confessions of love. Example: a protector of the MC goes from seemingly disliking him/putting up with him to confessing that she's always loved him within a single conversation. Felt VERY fast, although it was written well. Personal opinions: I don't like sharing of LIs even with other girls, no indication if that will be a thing, nothing so far though. Overall, a good experience so far. Try it out if you're interested in the taboo + harem vibe. EDIT after finished current update: The amount of actual story is very low, especially for being released since 2023. Like...REALLY low actually, makes me wonder if this was remade at some point. That said, what is there is good.

3*, this is a unpolished VN. There are spelling/grammar mistakes, and at times it calls the MC by the default name even if you put in a custom one. There are also occasionally incorrect character identifiers Setting is interesting and it could be a good story, but its not really flushed out / expanded on. Characters talk about terms/things with zero background to the player, and 4 chapters in you still dont really have any sense of the world building other than there mythical beings. The MC should never be expert level knowledge on something that the player has no chance of being familiar with. Relevant information (like what happened 7 years ago to the MC and his sister) is known to all of the characters but the player. Reuses quite a bit of assets that are in hundreds of VNs. The "slow burn" with the LIs are done poorly, with all of the characters dropping their panties for the MC immediately and then just saying "wait till next time" - thats not a slow burn, thats just being indecisive on being a porn game or a story driven game. Trying to appeal to both just leaves it as lackluster in both. Chapters are also quite short. So far there is not much player choice. Choices lead to minimal scene variations that dont really have any impact on the story. There are also far too many LIs and characters. The first LI introduced in the game is in a grand total of two brief scenes. You immediately have the option of going on a date with them, and 4 chapters later nothing until a phone call at the end of the 4th chapter. Cast of the VN should have been halved, its impossible to build this many paths. And yet the latest chapter ends with several new characters being introduced for the first time, even though none of the paths with the existing characters have been built in any meaningful way You could do far worse, but I wouldnt suggest this in its current form

v0.4 Great potential, great renders, interesting story and characters. I'm just a bit concerned about the amount of characters. Some are shownnear the beginning and then we don't hear about them for a long time.

Ch4-p1 A hidden gem! Amazing worldbuilding, great models, an engaging story, and the MC is also pretty cool. No grind or silly minigames. There are also not many choices so far. The only ones you make are the "are you interested in fucking this woman?" type. I don't know how often it is updated but there is already a lot of content to enjoy.

This VN definitely deserves a better rating. The story is great and easy to follow despite the lack of explanations about the different races (a codex would be a great addition). Renders are very good but unfortunately there is no animation, the ‘animated’ tag must be for the previous version, before the remake, too bad… The MC is likable, which is a big plus, he’s not a wimp, nor a creep, and nor a big pervert, a nice change from 80% of the AVNs out there. It’s a harem game but you still get to choose your love interests, even you already had a past with some of them. Ex: Celine is your ‘wife’ (a forced union between 2 families from when you were younger), she really loves you though, but you can still reject her if she’s not to your liking. You have a large choice of girls, MILFs, and even a GILF. It deserves a 4/5 and would earn a 5/5 if the overall context was better explained and if there were animations.

The female leads are not only beautiful but also undeniably sexy, with designs that feel intentional and fitting rather than exaggerated. More importantly, their personality and connection with mc, helping them feel like real characters instead of just visual elements. The connections between characters feel natural and emotionally engaging, creating a romantic atmosphere that’s easy to get invested in. The relationships develop in a way that feels earned, which adds depth to the overall experience. Pacing is handled exceptionally well. The story moves forward at a steady, comfortable rhythm—never too fast, never dragging—allowing scenes to breathe while keeping the player interested. This balance makes the game feel relaxing yet engaging at the same time. While the game is still in its early stages, the potential is very clear. The foundation is solid, and what’s already here shows a lot of promise. All the best to devs.

The game is visually very good and the setting and concept of the story is also very nice. However the actual story is not so great. The pacing of the story is very weird and feels wrong sometimes. Some characters are also very cliche. In the first phase of the game we saw 4 other male characters other than the MC. However these characters were so blatantly and hilariously nerfed it feels comical. Hamada is too old, his son is a bratty bitch boy, the cop is a straight up asshole and the orc friend/bodyguard of the MC is impotent. The MC seems like a good enough guy but not so much so that every woman would throw themselves at him however that is exactly what seems to happen. The story is set up as if to show that the MC is a chad end every other character is useless. This makes the story kinda boring. The other issue i feel is that the dialogue is to simplistic. I think English is not the dev's main language and the issue stems from this fact. However, if they can, i believe the dev should try to work with a writer to help with the dialogue. The game has a lot of potential however if the above issues are not addressed the game might just end up as a good looking but boring slopfest.

As of the current version as a first time player, its a pretty inticing game. I highly enjoy the story concept but everything seems very rushed. You are kind of thrown into the story as if there was an introduction or a whole other part of the story that is just missing beforehand. To me there is very little in the way in character development. Alot of the dialog is made out to be that most of the characters have some history or relationship together/with the MC, but it comes of as... stale. It makes it hard to feel anything to any of the characters, MC included. There are a few instances at the start , for a few dialog lines, when the name doesnt match who is speaking but other than that the rest of the dialog has no mistakes... to my knowledge. As for the renders, i think they are great. Lighting and perspective is all good. All LI's so far are very attractive. MC's appearance seems to fit the character personality. Although few, i think the sex scenes could be a little longer, feels like a two pump chump job. Overall it was pretty enjoyable, i would recommend playing and i want to see the story continue; eventhough it was like a multiple part series rushed into one short episode.

This novel simply doesn’t make sense to me, and maybe it's just not my type. The storyline feels chaotic, with too many topics to cover and an overwhelming number of female characters that fail to engage me. From the very start, I was bored. The pacing feels off, and the narrative structure is disjointed, almost as if it’s a demo that hasn’t been fully developed. Some of the descriptions of female characters are particularly off-putting, as they come across as unattractive or unappealing. Overall, the book lacks the coherence and depth I expect from a well-crafted story. It might appeal to some, but it certainly wasn’t for me.

Version EA 2024/01/26 “A Touch of Magic” is currently very short, with about an hour of playtime. Additionally, only 2 out of 6 achievements can be unlocked (checked the source code to validate this). In its current form, this content is what a demo should've been. But, that said, I'm seeing potential. The current game hints at a world with lore and a rich history, though it's too soon to say if this writer can make it stand out. I have the impression that the writer tried to force some references into the story to indicate this, but this didn't have the desired effect on me. Example: “I get that Ammuntadoris are extremely dangerous, but they wouldn't betray their lord.” “They would risk a fight against the Erinyes.” “And your Aegis would make it nearly impossible.” These three lines are said after each other, with no real explanation of who or what it's about. At least 'Aegis' is explained through context later on. My main worry with this is that this is an Early Access game, as such it'll take months for the next update to come along. By that time, players will have forgotten these references. I've found one sex scene in the current content where the MC got a BJ. This scene happens across a few renders with both people being entirely silent. Except for the woman saying “Not a single drop wasted.” there was no indication that ejaculation happened. This silence could be in-line with the main character's personality, but then writing out a thought like “Let's see how she handles me climaxing unexpectedly;” would've added something to this scene. The renders themselves look good with plenty of attention to detail. However, most renders look washed-out, as if the gamma setting was too high. All things considered, I do think this game shows promise. However, for its current price, I suggest waiting, unless you want to support an up-and-coming dev with your disposable income. Suggestions: - Try to edit the renders in photoshop to make them less bright/foggy. - Add a “lore book” where names and terms are explained, and make these words clickable in the text. This way players can easily look up words that are unfamiliar, or they have difficulty remembering after a new update. - Show us more of the MC's motivation and thought process. If he knew who delivered the poison, why didn't he immediately call for their whereabouts? - Please, don't fall in the trap of lore and world building without meaning. If “Ammuntadoris” aren't relevant, we don't need to know what or who they are. Suppose they only come into play in Chapter 4, it's too soon to introduce them now.

In the first phase, when I enter the game on the main window, the animation lags, and secondly, the story and content is very short, resembling more a demo than a game. There are many things to improve, I'm waiting to see the new updates and I have time to change my mind.
