After the Fog

The story feels a bit underdeveloped. I feel like the plot moved too fast at the beginning. I could have added more backstory about how the character learned what they did, or given some clues about where their mom or sister went. I see that part as a bit underdeveloped, but the rest of the designs look interesting, and for a first release, you won't get bored. I recommend it,xd.

After the Fog is, by some, margin, one the worst titles I've played in months. MC's mum s models and his sisters are nothing short of fapping material. To be perfectly honest, I had to start writing down the things I dislike because there are a bunch : Plot. It spends too much time explaining that something terrible has happened and it fell into the HIMYM trap: "Hey, chums, something is going on now but let me take you back in time to avoid constructing a cohesive story in very excruciating and ultimately unrealistically minute detail". Script. There is none. There's some text at the bottom, but I can't quite see it when it's behind such glaring exposition... But as soon as you squint hard enough, you'll see that the pacing is either in vegetative state or in a rush to get the lewd scenes over with [I'll admit I stopped less than halfway through Ep. 1]. I've yet to see what's the fuzz about the fog. It's in the title, yet it's nowhere near my screen. MC's first lewd scene had no build-up and makes no sense. It was just "This is the fat girl. I can't make her be my girlfriend because I need to go to the Army so we're FWB but I told her that when I come back we will be a couple. In the meantime, enjoy this very short scene and this even shorter post-orgasm bliss." This makes him a very scummy manipulator and makes me really not want to root for him, despite the fact that I know his family did him very dirty. Plot devices are awful. The android was supposed to be one the first models ever sold and it cost five figures. yet MC feels like giving it to the daughter of the furry even though he never learned her name and she and her mother never went round MC's parents house. So they basically don't know them. The mother was wearing some lingerie for her husband, but then decides to change into a bikini that was made for A-cup women. Which is a habit that his other mum has, too; she wears skimpy lingerie around the house as if it were pyjamas. His family left him just 'cause. The father went away with the furry and her daughter, but the mother up and went away and his sister accused him of molesting her. Very odd choice, considering the fact that the script takes pride in telling as much as possible and leave no room for showing. He was homeless for some time. An old homeless man got him a job at the docks and his sole purpose was saying "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". the exposition is unfathomable. MC says all the time "but let me explain". The worst cardinal sin for scripts is forgetting the very simple rule "Show, don't tell". Also, MC seems to give Captain Hindsight a run for his money; he's also telling us "Had I known [mistake from the past], I would've [action]". Creative choices. Oh, dear. The substance that allowed the existence of furries "has no color", and yet it's clearly yellow and looks like that's what was in the suitcases that Tarantino likes so much. Music is simply not good as it doesn't fit the script. It's all retrowave, which is there to sound cool but not to set a dark tone full of deceit and despair. Even when revealing that the father was dicking the neighbour, the music stayed the same (?) Models. Using Honey Select is either the best decision for visuals or the sole reason why it looks bad. All female's buttocks are red (yes, really!). They are literally red as if they all had a paddling session right before the game starts. MC has a red tattoo of ahegao face in his arm, and he made it after he started working at the docks. Either his co-workers ignore him completely, or the manly, rugged, harsh, rough stevedore stereotype is the same as in that foundry in that episode of The Simpsons. All characters are inexplicably shiny. The translation from Portuguese to English is MTL. I don't know why there's two English translations -one from Google Translate and one "manual"- but both are really bad. Google TL isn't very good when it comes to translating sizeable texts, but Dev went out of their way to change things like "Auto" to "Car" since "auto" in Portuguese could refer to "automatic" or "car" the vehicle. There's onomatopoeias that weren't translated at all, such as "Toc, toc, toc" instead of "Knock, knock, knock". Personal pronouns are inconsistent. When MC is narrating stuff about his father [narration is on 1st person], it switches from talking about MC's mum to his father's mum. When looking at the script's files, instead of setting a colour for every line in which MC is narrating, each and every single line has the argument { i}{color=#2ECCFA}{/color}{/i} , which makes for sloppy and unnecessarily cumbersome handling of differentiating between narration and speech. Assets such as grass placing was done clumsily. I could see every single square of grass. Not that it was very hard, though. CGs are distracting. Even though the female characters (LIs, apparently) are all sexy-looking, they are there just to see some shimmering skin. Furthermore, what I mean by "distracting" is that they simply spring up on the screen for no reason, instead of being unlocked to be checked out after. What's even worse is that after seeing whatever CG got unlocked, you can't press "Enter": you have to left-click to put it out. It adds sound effects for things like police sirens but not when people knock on doors. Either add them or omit them. After the Fog is, to put it politely, off to a rocky start. Bad script, creative choices and loads of out-of-left-field decisions make this title an avoidable one.

not sure what the oother reviewer has been playing cause this ain't what he was talkjing about This VN is terrible... makes no fucking sense... thinghs happens because they happen, family leaves MC cause .. reasons some people hate MC cause .. well the story needs it the transitions are terrible the characters are meh or shit the story is .. crafted by a 5 year old high on crack the dialogue? I mean at one point the MC refers to him as the wife so you can imagine well the dialogue is crafted what is it with devs and 1 choice options? that's fucking retarded .. TLDR : shit story that makes no sense, terrible characters except 2-3 , bad dialogue and the "graphics" are MEH at best ...

An excellent start; the storyline is strange but well-crafted and quite interesting. The scenes, animations, and fluidity are all very fresh. There are tests of the character designs, which is quite comprehensive. There are a few issues with the translations, but honestly, the game has already seen a lot of work put into it, and that's very commendable. I really hope the game continues to be developed. A solid 5/5.
