VERSION: v0.05 SUMMARY: An AVN that takes a bite out of the archetypal vampire mythos, subverting the tropes of Stoker's original masterpiece. However there is little here to give any real feedback on. RATINGS: (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐ NOTE: The following categories and scoring method are my own criteria and may require more context. Additionally , scoring is based on the state, and what is in the current version and not what may or may not be introduced at a later point. Character (Model) Visuals......... : ⭐⭐⭐ General (World) Visuals........... : ⭐⭐⭐ Animation Quality................. : ⭐ Character Personality(Persona).... : ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Story & Dialogue .................. : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Writing & Grammar................. : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ UX/UI, Game Type & Mechanics.......: ⭐⭐⭐ Playtime & Pacing ..................: ⭐⭐ Music & Sounds .....................: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Adult Content & Fetishes.......... : ⭐ Average: 33 of 50 possible points giving a 66% rating i.e. 3.5 stars. PROS: - See my opinions section for details. Written very well, but then taking from such a brilliant piece of gothic literature, who can make any mistake? Visually not bad at all, the renders of models are fairly decent, but there is room for improvement. World visuals are also similar to the models, decent, good even, but can also do with some more work, see Comments. Audio is so far pretty good, the music, classical and fit well, ambient sounds are good and done well. The "vibe", atmosphere, sinister presence and eeriness are captured pretty well in this AVN. CONS: - See my opinions section for details. The models currently sit right in the 'uncanny valley' —they are attractive and well-proportioned, but their skin is so smooth and the lighting so flat that they feel more like pristine plastic dolls than actual people living out a gritty Gothic drama. The general issue is the lighting, the contrast and brightness of colours make scenes feel "washed out", not only with models. The UI is not bad, but some extra details like dialogue settings, opacity, font type, size, would be nice. Very little content here to get your "fangs" into, not even to provide a technical demo review. OPINIONS, SUGGESTIONS & FINAL REMARKS : NOTE: The following remarks are my personal opinions and thoughts, which may provide more context and could be useful to the developer. (Read them or don't) The models feel a bit too 'procedural' or clean. I’m looking for high-fidelity skin shaders —things like specular maps that capture natural skin oiliness (shine) and micro-textures for pores and imperfections. The current lighting feels a bit too global and flat. For a Gothic-inspired title, we need high-contrast shadows and sub-surface scattering (the way light glows through skin, like on an earlobe or fingertip) to give the models weight and presence in the environment. The current models lean toward a 'perfectionist' CG look. I’d prefer to trade some of that 'smoothness' for authentic details : freckles, slight redness, and varied skin grain. It moves the characters from looking like 'dolls' to looking like 'people' caught in a dark story. While the above points sound overly critical, these are my observations and for this kind of title I am probably going to be critical as I have always enjoyed Dracula and have high expectations of these adaptations. While the character designs are attractive, I’m aiming for a high-end, tactile aesthetic that moves away from the 'smooth' look of typical modern titles. I want to see more micro-texturing —freckles, natural skin oiliness, and granular detail—to ground these characters in the gritty, atmospheric world of a Victorian Gothic parody. Some scenes, like the still ones e.g. intro at Carfax asylum, the dream of Mina. These are actually very good, they outshine the general renders and character models. I enjoy the atmosphere, the music, e.g. of where the coach is arriving at the castle, the music, and presceding scene with the spider, its eery, but apt, and that's a job well done. If only this kind of quality could be consistent throughout this AVN, then you will have a truly impressive product on your hands. While I found this version a decent start/ "demo", here is simply too little content to really review it fairly. As such many of my scores will be low and I will need to re-review in future, but I hope the developer does ensure these criteria are of decent/good quality when they are introduced. TLDR: Inspired by the foundational Gothic masterpiece and modern cinematic takes like 2024’s Nosferatu , the developer has captured the atmosphere and audio brilliantly. However, the visuals currently feel artificial and struggle with the "uncanny valley." It has the soul of a classic, but currently lacks the 'high-end' finish to match the top-tier writing.
