Review of Demons roots final version. As a porn game it would be like a 3/10, but as a jrpg game it's like an 8, which is what I went with when scoring. Time to complete everything was about 75 hours. Art: 4/5 Animation: none Sfx: 3/5 (great music but mediocre sound effects during h scenes) Gameplay: 4/5 Story: 4/5 Pros Equipment and abilities are significantly more thought out compared to most other rpgm games. There are some intense fetishes that might not be for some, but will definitely be up other people's alley, nice to see content that's barely anywhere else regardless. Story is pretty solid and the majority of the cast is pretty likeable, it's easy to want to root for them even though that means less h stuff. Cons As a porn game it is pretty bad as the content is extremely spread out with two large clumps of content being optional and separate from the main gameplay. The ending arc got dragged out and was kind of unsatisfying as a conclusion to everything the characters went through. Overall a solid RPG game, but probably not for you if porn is the main thing you're looking for in a game.

Rating: 5 stars! Demon's Roots is a very good game but a very bad porn game. It's an RPG makers game, and it is definitely one of the best of its kind. This is not the kind of game where you have to be defeated to see the H-scene. Those will either happen during the main story, in the optional content in a certain kingdom, or during the Bad-end Dungeon. The Bad-End dungeon is not a forced event; you can refuse to go there. Here are the Positives and the Negatives: Positives: -An excellent story -Very good OST and BGM -Great characters. -Not grindy at all. (and if you need to grind, there is a whole area just for that) -Really player-friendly (apart from some optional boss) -A clever Map design (Kinda like FFVI) -The porn is mostly used to advance the story's thematics or plot-points (apart in a certain kingdom). -DeathPolca is the cutest...though others are giving her a run for her money. -NG+ available The Negatives: -Your characters' builds are kinda rail-roaded. -The hentai/porn is a bit of a letdown as those mostly happen in the bad end dungeon. It's only a negative if you are here for the porn/hentai. -Some secrets are hard to find without a walkthrough. -A bit long (Around 70h-90h) Conclusion: It is , surprisingly, an excellent and well-written game. It is one of the best game I've played in a while. I definitely recommend it if you're interested in more than a nukige game.

Believe the hype Anon. Will you bust a nut to this game? Honestly, probably not. But Demons Roots sits in the niche of games like Euphoria and Black Souls where the NSFW content is secondary to arousal but indispensable to the story it wants to tell. The continent is a brutal place, your enemies are monsters, your allies have the potential to be monsters and failure means you and your friends are sent to the bad end dungeon to suffer some of the worst fates I've ever seen in fiction. The degree of suffering this game depicts is staggering. But it's not purely shock value either, nor is it just there to make you hate the bad guys. Instead it presents real stakes and provides contrast such that the fragile flicker of hope within your comrades is blinding amongst the dark. It's a story about the strength of the defeated and the defiance of the downtrodden. And what a cast they are to follow. There are 8 playable characters and you'll love them all. rpgmaker combat is not known for its excitement, but when you're in a boss battle and one of your companions is going though an important narrative beat, unlocking their ultimate skill, with the BANGERS on the soundtrack playing? The buzz is real. play this game, you won't regret it.

One of the best RPGmaker games of all time, not merely one of the best h-games. Demon Roots is technically a prequel/alternate universe of Akai Mato's previous game, King Exit, but it is not required to play. King Exit was a good but uneven experience--Demon Roots is an improvement in all aspects and an absolute must-play in the genre. Gameplay can run over 30 hours, there are dozens of CGs and a gripping story.

You basically get the play as the fodder of the late Demon Lord and embark in a quest to conquer the world. Unfortunately, the world's got hands. Story-wise, it's got REALLY good lore, like really damn good. Character-wise, it's full of tropes. It SOMEHOW works and you end up more or less empathizing with the characters. Story progression is ehhhh, too many conveniences and ends up reading more as a comedy instead of the serious story that it wants to be. Still, the story is overall strong, though sadly the ending is dogshit and disrespects everything that the author built for the past 30-40 hours or so. Gameplay-wise... it's okay. You can avoid random encounters and it feels alright gameplay wise. As usual with this developer, there's content locked behind NG+, which sucks, but yeah that's that. There's also references to his earlier works, and even characters from those earlier games/doujins. Now, as for the CGs themselves... ehhh not for me. Torture and all that is just not my thing. The soundtrack is solid, yada-yada. Overall, I recommend this game for the lore alone, it's an interesting read. Other than that, there's better ways to pass the time. 7/10 at best if you close one eye and squint with the other one. If you don't like reading, avoid it like a plague since it might as well be a visual novel.

One of the best RPGM games, solid gameplay for the genre but story is really what makes this, keeps throwing twists all the way and is quite sad. Maybe that's somewhat of an issue, because it's really long and you keep hoping for a happy ending after hours of suffering and it just keep going on. Porn is not really impacting game that much, some rape and you can prostitute yourself in literal fuck-kingdom ruled by a huge pervert.

How can a story include such detailed and graphic porn yet still end up immensely serious and deeply meaningful? When was the last time someone critically analyzed the worldbuilding and character development of adult content? It seems impossible, really. Yet that's exactly what this game compelled me to do. I suppose not many people will actively enjoy the ero part. However, the thing Demons Roots does really well is it incorporates dark and "adult" material into a very moving and emotional story. I don't want to gush too much about it, but every character is so well written and the world is so well developed. The highs and lows of emotion and really expertly forced into you if ya know what i mean . Compared to King Exit, this is a massive leap in writing, and I loved King Exit. Ofc, the gameplay isn't very interesting, so, if you don't care about story there's nothing here for you. But you should really really play this. please "Our world domination was a complete success!"

The story is really well written and the game is also long. The story gets even more catchy the closer you get to the end. Truly one of the best rpgm games I've played. The game is 10/10 and the H 4/10. You'll stay for the story not for the H. Go ahead and try it. Edit: The music is also really great. I think Shade was the Artist? Hands down really great artist.

Hands down, the best (erorpg?) game I've ever played. Such flushed out characters, well-written story, and after finishing the game, I was filled with inexplanable emotions, one of them being : I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS TO MY NORMIE FRIENDS!!!!! Craziest part is that I forgot its eroge part,the story had me hooked at the edge of the seat for the whole part, favorite game of the year to be completely honest. Can't wait for another *masterpiece* from Quick Nail Aristocrat.

It's RPGM, it's extremely long, and just about unfappable. But if you can tolerate that, Demons Roots is a top-class masterwork in the vast ocean of pervy Japanese indie RPGM slop. Highly recommended. Standouts: (+) Excellent writing and translation quality.​ (+) Huge cast full of great characters.​ (+) Carefully crafted and refined game, will never leave you guessing what you're supposed to do next, no jank, no bugs.​ (+) Visual presentation goes beyond the usual RPGM assets, and it's striking.​ Disappointments: (-) Sex content is either played for laughs, a couple times to advance a romantic plot, but mainly rape/ryona with the objective of expressing evil. It's not made to excite the player.​ Many characters fit into inherently sexual tropes, you got the 1000 year old loli, the yandere, the trap, the knight in plate bikini....heck, one little sister's ass is permanently stuck in a wall. But they fail to be properly sexual in any way befitting their station.​ (-) Mechanically, the game never leaves the mold of standard RPGM fare, and as such it can feel like a chore, and too easy, if you've played a lot of these.​ It feels as if the author came up with different pieces of content over time, like certain characters, specific narratives, twists, and places. "I really want this thing in the game. And that thing! And we simply must have this!" As a result, the story and world-building are quite scatterbrained, with many conflicting elements. But that's just part of the charm, because it's all tied together in some mad genius fashion. And somehow by the end, I found it all very satisfying.

This is a fantastic story with a lot of content to go through. Most of the other reviews will tell you just as much. One of my favorite quirks about this one though are the B&W manga-style panels that are drawn for some cutscenes. Finale is cliche as fuck but still well-done so I won't hold it against anyone. For the R-18 portion, there is about half of the scenes being torture porn. It's not exactly my thing, but there is an entire continent dedicated to R-18 scenes of all of the characters that is normal/consentual so take that as you will. They're minimal and it's more erotica with a couple stills behind them.

This game is WORTH reviewing and I hope many others will enjoy it. The story,the character. You are gonna be hooked with the story. Gameplay : While it is a RPGM turn based,it's not boring ,and provide challange for the player. Sex Scene: While the art is good, I mostly skip the H part for the story. Highly Recommended game

Usually this site uploads random garbage sex games, but this is one of the few that's actually a real game, and a good one at that. Story wise it was interesting from the start all the way to the end, and you will actually care about the characters. Be warned though it is a dark/brutal game, but also fairly tame compared to CLOCKUP games as a comparison. The ryona/gore scenes were done in a more sexual/fetishistic way instead of being a case of ultra-violence shock value. Even after beating the game I'll come back to the gallery replayer since some of the scenes were very hot and make great jerk off material. 4/5 as an RPG and 5/5 as an H-game

This game is a masterpiece. The gameplay itself isn’t the best and can get repetitive at times. Usually, it comes down to killing a bunch of enemies and then taking on the boss of the area. But the story this game tells makes it all worth it. The writing is absolutely amazing. It’s not the kind of story where everything goes according to plan. There are plenty of hardships you will have to face. You’ll feel sad, angry, even empty, and sometimes you’ll just sit there wondering what the hell is going on. That’s exactly what makes it so special, so different from all the games that I’ve played. The main character cast is just as good as the story. They aren’t empty soulless companions that are only in the game to unlock more h-scenes. Each one has their own goals, their own struggles, and their own story to tell, which makes them feel alive and memorable. As for the ending. I don’t want to spoil anything, but for me it was phenomenal. I didn’t expect it at all, so many emotions in such a short time. It even made me tear up, and it’s going to stick with me for a long time. This game made me realize things, made me feel a lot of different emotions, and I honestly recommend it to everyone. It deserves way more attention than it’s getting. So do yourself a favor and play Demons Roots .

This is a JRPG first and a H-game second Like what others have said, the characters and story are so good like wow Definitely one of the best adult RPGs out there if you enjoy the story Polka being a centuries old loli might be a turn off for some though ...

After beating MGQP. I was looking for a JRPG story driven game. And I found Demon Roots. Now I usually like games that features a male protag. But fir this game it doesn't matter because that's how good the story is. This is One of the greatest JRPG story I have ever played. Even the ending made me emotional. There are a lot of JRPG with multimillion dollar budget that doesn't even hold a candle to Demon Roots in terms of story. This is a must play game if you are a JRPG fan looking for a story driven game that have a great story.

Its a great RPG, what makes it unique from most rpgmaker is the different approach you can build and swap with your teams, its possible to find 1 character with 3 different roles, and theres around 7 characters to test out with Polka. The endgame are the toughest I've ever known. The seggs scene could use more vanilla yuri imo

5 stars, but it's a complicated 5 stars. This is a real serious jRPG. The story is very good, even if I'm not fond of a few developments mostly centered around the character of Diana and how she came to be in the world (without going into spoilers), and even if the writers likes his deus ex coincidences too much. The worldbuilding is solid, and the characters well fleshed out. If this weren't a porn game in RPG Maker, it'd be a shining example of independent RPG gaming. But it is both a porn game and an RPG Maker game so let's talk about these two aspects. RPG Maker wise, there's only so much you can do really. The game is carefully balanced around its progression and it works, so far as such a thing can, but it's seriously weighted down by it. The game's base gameplay loop outside of the talky bits is dungeon crawling and it just drags on with all the speedbump encounters. It's just not something that can be escaped so unfortunately it's instead something to endure. Grinding isn't really a thing at least (and if you ever find yourself grinding in an RPG Maker game anyway just edit the save game and save yourself the time, seriously), but even without it the number of encounters you'll have is insane and they just drag. Very sad indeed. For the porn, it's complicated. It mostly comes in three ways - the Good Bundle (nice or nice-ish scenes on demand in a Magical Pervert Kingdom), the Bad Bundle (an onslaught of Really Bad Stuff happening in the slave camp you can get yourself locked up in, which is a mechanically interesting puzzle dungeon of horrors), and the occasional event during the story. The scenes themselves are just a static image with advancing text underneath, with minimal changes as the scene progresses. Simple stuff but w/e, it generally more or less works. The images are well made. But other than the two batches, they're usually too infrequent to make the whole thing work as proper porn. If this is what you're playing the game for, you may be disappointed. A personal feeling about the porn scenes is that the porn often works at cross-purposes with the story. It makes perfect sense that things that happen would happen, but the game goes out of its way to flesh out the characters and make them likeable and then come the scenes where the sexual things that happen to them are outright traumatic (especially if you go down the Bad End route with getting locked up in the slave camp). It's just too depressing to be sexy unless I suppose one is really into that sort of thing. I'm not and I can't quite imagine the mindspace required to make it work, so to me it just didn't, not as porn. It did work as effective worldbuilding though. All these are serious complications on this 5 star rating. It's carried by the strength of the story, worldbuilding and characters alone, and they're strong enough to get that 5 and carry it despite being so weighted down. Just for them I'm giving this rating to it. If you're interested in a really solid Real jRPG here, solid enough to overcome the above, this one is definitely worth a try.

The story is good. But OH MY FUCKING GOD, WHY DOES KILLING RANDOM MOBS TAKE HALF AN HOUR? The worst part of this game or at best, mediocre for me is the combat. It doesn't add any new features, new systems, anything. And I could easily excuse that, but oh my god, BATTLES TAKE FOREVER IN THIS GAME. And if the battle system is boring, oh my god, I can't take 30 hours of straight-ass farming just because I like the story.

I finished the game, the dialogue in this game is good, (good enough that me - a ctrl-holding enjoyer, paused to read it), The game isn’t very gory unless you play the bad end mode, (the half of all the illustrations in #1). The only downside is that the ending isn’t satisfying enough considering everything Polca did. She deserve more, bruh.
