The setting is Nocturne, a city where alchemy has been lost—the City of Magic. The protagonist of the story is the eldest son of the Grayburn family, one of the Five Great Houses renowned for their mastery of magic… “Louis Grayburn,” as the heir to this distinguished family, has enrolled in Nocturne’s First Imperial Magic Academy to study magic. The “Ritual of Magical Power Appraisal” is held during the entrance ceremony at Nocturne’s First Imperial Magic Academy. There, students are required to cast their first spell—“Fast Magic”—to reveal their elemental affinity. As a member of a distinguished family, Lewis casts his spell while being watched with eager anticipation by the other students and teachers. ………But the spell failed to activate! Puzzled, the vice principal uses a magical power meter to reveal that Lewis has “zero magical power”…… Once it became clear that Lewis had zero magical power, the gazes of everyone at the entrance ceremony shifted from eager anticipation to mockery…… Lewis ended the joyous occasion of the entrance ceremony in the worst possible way.
