Stepping Over Oneself is a visual novel about love, memory, and emotionally complex choices. You play as Matthew, a programmer preparing to marry his fiancée, Ashley. Told in the style of a modern messenger, the story unfolds through photos, texts, inner thoughts, and layered conversations. The past begins to surface—ex-lovers, old friends, and unresolved feelings collide with the couple’s future. Your decisions shape the emotional dynamics: balancing logic, passion, and loyalty. Can true love survive when you know someone too well? Is intimacy itself a test? Multiple narrative paths reflect different player temperaments—from grounded commitment to romantic obsession. The tone is realistic, heartfelt, with touches of humor, light drama, and the emotional vibe of millennial relationships. (NTR is unavoidable, it's part of history.)

v0.10.0 Chapter 10 is now available for free. Matthew comes home to find that Ashley's matchmaking has worked—Jasper and Margot have found their way to each other. But the evening doesn't end there. Ashley turns her attention to Matthew, and the boundaries that felt solid throughout the story begin to shift in ways that ask new questions about trust, desire, and what happens when people finally say yes to something they've been avoiding. This chapter explores both paths—the one where connection deepens and intimacy returns, and the one where distance widens and choices diverge. Your decisions throughout the story shape how this moment unfolds, and the weight of those choices becomes clear here. The ground beneath these characters shifts in a direction they have to acknowledge. Ashley's confidence, Matthew's hesitation, and the presence of others in their home all create a moment that's charged with possibility and consequence. Thank you for your interest in the project. v0.09.5 This chapter shifts the perspective entirely—you step into Ashley's world as she navigates a conversation with Margot that starts casual and quickly becomes something else. Margot's frustration over Jasper's coldness spirals into questions Ashley isn't prepared to answer, and the lines between friendship, jealousy, and boundaries blur in ways neither of them expected. Ashley finds herself defending positions she didn't realize she held, deflecting questions that hit closer than they should, and realizing that some doors, once opened, change the room you're standing in. The chapter explores the uncomfortable spaces where loyalty, attraction, and unspoken tension collide—moments where silence says more than words, and every answer feels like a step deeper into territory no one intended to enter. v0.09 Matthew's world feels smaller with each passing conversation. Jasper keeps pushing boundaries with his observations and late-night photos, while Carlos's name lingers in places it shouldn't. The tension between work, trust, and quiet doubts continues to build, and every choice Matthew makes—whether defensive, sarcastic, or silent—shapes how he navigates the weight pressing down on him. Ashley tries to hold their connection together through late-night messages and small gestures, but distance has a way of creeping in even when you're texting the person you love. Margot adds her own chaos to the mix, and the shift in perspective lets you step into Ashley's world for the first time, seeing her thoughts, her frustrations, and her loyalty through her own eyes. This chapter explores the quiet strain of a relationship under pressure—the moments where reassurance feels necessary but never quite enough. v0.08 This chapter explores the growing tension in Matthew's world. Jasper continues his provocations, pushing uncomfortable questions that Matthew can't simply ignore. Meanwhile, Ashley navigates her teaching life while Matthew wrestles with doubts he never thought he'd have. You'll face conversations that shift between warmth and tension, playful moments that hide deeper concerns, and choices that will shape how trust—or suspicion—develops between the characters. Margot and Emma also play their parts, adding complexity to Matthew's already overwhelming day. Every dialogue choice matters. Whether Matthew defends, questions, or stays silent—each decision creates ripples that affect relationships and story directions. Expect emotional moments, meaningful exchanges, and situations where you'll need to decide what Matthew truly believes. Their late-night chats, photos, and his awkward confessions put Ashley in a dangerous position — both as a mentor and as a wife. For players, this chapter is all about choices: Do you let Bryan’s admiration turn into something deeper, forbidden? Do you keep him at arm’s length and stay true to Matthew? Or do you try to balance on that razor’s edge, pushing Ashley into the open-relationship path where both she and Matthew have to face new truths? I’ve added more point checks this time, so your previous decisions finally start to shape the story in real ways. Who’s chasing Ashley’s betrayal? Who’s ready to open the marriage? And who still believes in saving Matthew and Ashley’s love? You’ll find out in Chapter 5. This update is not just more content — it’s a turning point. Every message, every picture, every little slip matters now. v0.04 N/A v0.03 N/A v0.02 N/A v0.01 Initial Release

I feel like even the dialogue in this one was created by AI. Like, entire conversations. Maybe even the plot. Conversations often feel like the characters have no idea about events that happened earlier with the same characters. Characters send random pictures mid-conversation that have nothing to do with what they're talking about, etc. etc. So many of the conversations are extremely repetitive, too, both in terms of the dialogue in the conversations, and the tone/nature of the conversations. FMC and MC are constantly bickering about MC's work, other characters are constantly complaining to MC about how he's not a good partner, over and over again. And yeah, there are a lot of choices, perhaps too many, but they don't seem to mean anything, or at least it's difficult to tell what they're actually doing. I really wanted to like it, because I like NTR and it's good in some ways, like taking its time to get to the NTR, and or two good moments, but yeah, it's very, very much AI slop.

v0.09- A descent update so i did raise the stars up to average, but there's one thing missing from this avn. with almost 500 pictures most are portrait. This update has some nice foreplay renders.....finally.....but it's missing any penetration pictures. No time at all does it show the mc, and his wife having full on sex. Not even margo for that matter, or jasper. And the animation count is 3, and has not increased. I'll reevaluate on the next update. v.08 I want to like this. But it is so tedious to play, it's not building tension but boredom. In the beginning it feels like you are going round and round just fighting with your wife. It's almost to the point where i hope Spoiler: what i wish would happen to shut the wife up she cheats so she will stop complaining. The way things are playing out i'm sure she's cheating already but just confronted with it yet. The wife does stuff that's convenient and easy for her. Never does she go out of her way like visit you at work. Bring YOU coffee, hold you after a long day. Spoiler: what the wife really is and what she should get Kinda feels like she's a needy person that is spoiled and wants it all. The whole argument of you aren't do enough when you do, and also it's not good enough when you try. This woman is never happy, after 5 years it might be worth letting her go and say you dodged a bullet. Not much really new here you have the mc, the wife, and the slutty male best friend. In addition you have a slutty best friend for your wife. The story is very long winded. It appears the love option Spoiler: hint on points is something you can't keep hitting, she wants the lust option sometimes and the nerd option, so at a certain point you need to raise almost everything. Took me a minute to figure it out. As another reviewer said, the game forgets the choices you made. With that said i think another reviewer said it's really kinetic with illusion of choice. I'm not 100% sure it's an an illusion, but the point system is hard to figure out what she wants and when. The renders aren't bad, but not grand. There's only 3 animations. But it's also very narrative and needs more photos. I can't say how many times i saw the same one of the mc which is fine, don't need to see yourself. but the wife's photos are repeated too. I don't play with sound so i can't judge that. I would tell people to stay away just because of the word soup going on, there isn't enough of a payoff. In fact i can't even say that this is real life arguments in the narrative. It reminds me of the ntr stories that keep saying the same lines and lines over and over to prove the fact, but here it's just the same argument. I finally got to the end of this one, and there's Spoiler: cheating no physical cheating yet on my play though as far as he's been confronted with, emotionally, i would say yes. And i like how she doesn't know if she cheated while blacking out but of course it's the mc's fault. Everything is the mc fault. At times the wife seems like a spoiled b....and she could do more then just complain. But the dev could also write it where the mc can come home instead of work all the time....there's no choice there which would make it a great way if you wanted to get off love path to ntr easier. Now it appears like it's going Spoiler in an nts direction. Maybe a sharing with her bff. And it teases of the hubby cheating first but you don't ever have that option neither. Then you hacked her phone but are doing nothing about the messages she's sending anyone. Nor about the conversation with what your bf did to her when they were dating and she wants that. . And the whole birthday party that was moved up in a mess as far as figuring it out on my play through you slept with your wife. But it also said you didn't remember any of it....which goes back to sometimes this avn doesn't know what it did the chapter before. After this much punishment to read this text wall i want to see the end, i'm owed the end for stealing my time. Lets see what the next update brings, and if this becomes an abandoned project. Now i'm going to rip the images to see the other paths if there are any cuz i'm not playing this one again. I feel i'm on the love path, but at the same time there's too many things that say cheating, you just don't see it, or your character is too dumb to see it...like the holding hands, the pictures, and all the other things. So i feel there really isn't any love path at all, and that's a lie too. After looking at the images Spoiler: after ripping the images theres a few that show cheating with the student and breast grabbing by the other teacher which i have not seen in my play though, will i see them? Does the cheating still happen but you don't see it yet? Or am i past it for now on this path? or is it the option of the mc is stupid and misses it all. This isn't a slow burn it's glacial. After the hours? of play i time i feel we are no further then when we started, and i can't say it was even character developement.

It's a mess of a game with the illusion of choice. Simply put, the romance tag is a lie, ignore it, it means nothing. The "love" points are a lie, they also do nothing. It's your basic NTR kinetic novel with a "wife" that is going to cheat regardless of what choices you try and make. People are paying quite a high sum for a messy lie.
godofwar2027 2026-02-22
I tried to play it in various ways, but it's a constant bug in the options and texts, no matter how many points you have in love, lust, etc. the path will always be the same, this is an insult to those who play, and then not to forget that everything that happened the day before, the text forgets it in a comical way, for example, when Jasper asks MC how he wants to deal with the story of Carlos' photo and FMC's blowjob, MC seems like an idiot, first he says he will confront them, then the whole game continues as if nothing had happened, and that DEV confrontation, what happened, and then, MC finds Margot's photo about the betrayal, and he doesn't say anything to anyone, up until 5 minutes before he was super arrogant, after the photo, he becomes a parasite, no coherence in the story, a total bug
rob_trowy_97 2026-02-22
This is not a game - this is an insult. Using AI to create the pictures is nice, and maybe helping with text is acceptable, but making the whole game with it? This game is literally written by AI with no human participation. The wall of text is basically the same things said in different words.
Kaeri 2026-02-22
This is the slowest, most boring game I think I've ever downloaded. If you're looking for an extremely long, melodramatic book to read that never gets to the point, go for it. Otherwise, go download anything else at all.

Perfect story with slow corruption Nothing is too fast and illogical Loved that student arc too Please make it more, but do not keep it too fast A little slower and more lewd chats with student will be loved
Usschevalier 2025-11-23
Every update, old saves don't work so you have to play again, and again, from the start. It´s really annoying. About characters and pictures, it's everything about tastes, of course, but I really miss some spicy pics that those you can really see in this game. And routes are also mixed so... I really cannot recomend this game to anyone.

Either the dev has no notes about his story and he forget things or this is written by AI. There are so many things that happen but story seems to forget it a scene later already. Carlos casually holding her boob in the beginning is totally ignored. Same with her giving Carlos a blowjob in the car. There is a huge section of dialogues how Carlos is driving to Ashley, in the next scene she even talks about that with her husband(MC) and then.. gone. Like that didn't happend at all. Same with Jasper. He is on his way, MC tells Ashley doesn't like it, Ashley tells Jasper to go home instead and next day you recieve a message that they had sex yesterday. And then? Like it didn't happend. And I think that is already a neckbreaker for an AVN but I think that game has the most annoying characters ever. - Wife constantly nagging and whining about their relationship - MC is working 23 hours a day / and is ok when jasper sleeps with his wife - Jasper either bragging or nagging the whole time - Best friends wife acting like a cockhungry slut (What a surprise, lol) It feels like an "Unhappy Marriage Simulator". And I don't understand the title "Stepping over oneself". I would think that MC is getting out of his comfort zone, does something and becomes the biggest MF in town or whatever but instead you make absurd choices where most of the time the variables you get don't make sense at all which also forces you to give answers you don't want to give but you have to just so you can stay on the love path for example. Oh and I forgot that the Characters are sending them selfies all the time for no reason. It is already weird that the wife is sending selfies all the time to make MC feeling more guilty (which doesn't work) but if his best friend just randomly sending selfies without context it just gets absurd.

[v0.06] Same pattern as the dozen other games by the various alt accounts of this "dev." They use LLM script, LLM vibe coding, AI art without any quality control, and cross promote their own alt patreon accounts. It couldn't be more blatant than this. Frankly, I'm very pro AI as a tool that can be used like any other tool, be it photoshop, daz, grammerly, or anything else. But it does open the path more than other tools for churning out absolute garbage, and this dev is doing exactly that. So getting into the actual critique of this specific title... The script is absolute drivel. Character speaking in completely nonsensical ways, about nonsensical topics, with no logic or flow to it at all. Code that is arbitrary, love, lust, nerd, and you get those points basically randomly for choices. The best friend of the MC sending him selfies for no reason whatsoever. What kinda dudes send selfies to each other repeatedly? The pictures are randomly generated while ignoring the location or situation it's supposed to convey. Garbage. Basically a scam to try and get people to subscribe to multiple patreon accounts owned by the same guy churning out slop.

Story : Bog standard but with lots of extra whining from every character . What it lacks in skill it makes up for with volume. If you don't lose your wood reading thru the endless, depressing word salad you're either made of stone or way too easy to please. Art : Bog standard Ai. Which would be fine if there was...sex? Instead it's a never ending stream of character portraits that change clothes mid-conversation with a collection of pouty faces to punctuate the dreary dialogue. Surprises : Someone actually made a gallery unlocker for this. What a spectacular waste of effort. I got more satisfaction from the ladies underwear section in an old Sears catalogue. Conclusion : This game was made to make NTR lovers shoot themselves. Stay away or hide the ammo.

I started the game with great expectations, being able to finally make a tough MC in this style of game, it was something innovative, at least that's how it was at the beginning, then the collapse, I found myself with yet another product similar to others, where MC undergoes an atrocious emotional curve, from strong husband, to cuckolded and happy husband, in these games, you can only evaluate the story and the characters, no graphics or audio, therefore, reviewing only the plot is the only motivation, I repeat, it started as a novelty, then it became a well-known script of this genre, a real shame DEV.

Description says there are three paths, one of them is said to be Pure Love the others being ntr and nts. Thats false. No matter your choice its ntr or nts. Which would be fine if the description didnt outright lie to us. Had a promising story about saving our marriage but devs lied about it and it just ends up being another hotwife or cheating story. Just remove the lies about a love path and id give it a 3/5. I should add, the rest of the game is the same as all of the phone games. MC is spineless. MC best friend pretends to care about them but just wants to fuck MC wife. Female friend pretends to care but encourages the wife to cheat. Also it has a stat system in the game, Love, Lust and Nerd. But ive played with them all and so far they havent mattered with Jasper. Only a few choices matter and they either lead to ntr or nts no matter the stat.

Review based on v0.04: Alright, this game has good art. Sure its AI but that does not nessesarly mean its trash, if the dev knows how to use the tools (Merging checkpoints, getting good LoRA's etc) the art can in many instances turn out really nicely. Consistency is nice across the cast, the GF/wife looks amazing but sadly no real sex scenes as of yet (On my run at least). The story shows hints of a good narrative going on BUT I feel like either the point system gets confused or so does the dev have dementia because sometimes it felt like I was reading the same scene 2 or 3 times with small variations, and OMFG the constant arguing between the GF/wife and MC that just leads nowhere, and there is so. freaking. much. text. between each time you get a picture. I ended up skipping towards the end because it started to feel like it was repeating itself with little to no reward. Creds to dev for having quite a few different choices to make though. Even if its mainly only dialogue flavoring. All in all, just average. This might be the most featureless phone sim (or whatever you wanna call them), straight up everything happens in the messages. No Social media, web or features like that. Story is imho a mess but shows some potential if the dev could take sometime to clean it up, plenty of choices but seems like they just go towards filling up the different points (Lust, Love, Nerd). Art is really nice though.

v0.3 It's bad. I'm sorry but it's bad. The writting goes in unnecessary circles, with an absurdly long build up .. for nothing yet. No incentive, no nothing. Just pointless drama going endlessly between a man (serial dumbass) and his wife. 2 stars for the engine at least .. Waste of time

For v0.03: So anyone not on the Love path, this review might not be for you. But in a game like this, the Love path is the main one I'm interested in. If on the Love path, I don't like saying this, but this game can really feel insufferable at times. You get choices, but the story is largely drawn out in a way that your choices don't affect outcomes much, just changes in dialogue. That's my biggest problem, you are NOT rewarded for making good choices overall, and constantly feel punished most of the game for the marriage failing no matter how hard you try. You can say all love and lust choices, and most of the game (except for one part later on), nothing much changes. The MC will be stuck in the story where he overworks and the MC's partner wants more love and spice in their relationship, then resort to their friends to give advice. Probably great for NTR, but this is very punishing for Love. The dialogue also feels inconsistent at times, time skips aren't always clarified, and sometimes, what's happening is too similar where it almost feels like a repeat of the conversation you just had but on a slightly different route, making you question if it's a bug and just switched you to a different route (but I think this is just the writing). This game largely seems like it's a kinetic novel right now (I might be wrong, but seems that way) and you're building up points to affect the outcome later when all your choices will amount to something likely coming up in a later version (possibly as soon as the next one considering what happened at the end). Exactly how many points you need to get an outcome is very unclear. The main difference I see is mostly dialogue differences for choices so far. It doesn't help that dialogue is often slow and kind of goes over a lot of the same situation over and over (MC overworks, Ashley wants more love). However, it does go into depth with the storytelling, the slow buildup might be very intentional and help with story later on (I'll see). I do want to say, this game might actually have quite a bit of potential depending on when these choices actually start mattering (why I give it 2 stars instead of 1). Maybe the future versions will make sense of this, but right now, for any player like me who enjoys love route and probably wants to feel challenged but ultimately overcome with love, this game feels largely against you because of some of the story that happens completely beyond your control. No less, it's looking like there might be inevitable, story forced cheating from the MC's partner (but not confirmed yet), thus the Love route might be trying to save the marriage after that. That is not ideal for a Love route since that's forced NTR, even if you can win the partner back. But I can't speak for the creators plans until they show it. Right now, this game doesn't feel fun. It feels punishing, despite some potential. I'm willing to keep watching the game for its updates to see if anything changes and if it all comes together nicely in later versions, can easily rate higher. But right now, I don't feel I can give it any higher because it's very much not satisfying and feels hopeless for the MC so far (again, might be intentional build up). Specifically for the Love route at this current version, I do not believe many will enjoy this.

0.03 This story is filled with the unpleasant experiences of the characters. It's about a completely unhappy couple that can't build a relationship but also can't let go of it. From my point of view, too much attention is given to their arguments - it even becomes boring. There's too much text that evokes nothing but disgust. After reading, I feel heavy-hearted and not at all excited. But perhaps I'll try to see later how the plot develops.
Doriangray666 2025-07-21
I had given 5 stars, and a good opinion, a renewal on the MC character, but the last two updates, have destroyed the beauty of the game, the Dev has aligned himself with other similar games, and made MC from a husband with a strong, to the usual stupid MC, too bad, I had praised the game and the Dev, but everything went wrong.
FAPANAUT 2025-06-21
All of the arguments about how this VN is so much like another VN, could be said about nearly every VN posted in these forums. That said, I understand there are some that stand out and most people are looking for a more visual representation of the story and character interactions and it is for that reason I am giving 4 starts (I would like to be able to give 4 1/2 but only full star ratings are allowed). The MC is, admittedly, an individual that literally cannot get out of his own way, hence the title. There is something inside that wants to do better and yet he cannot seem to move forward with enough action to achieve that goal. As I have explained to more than one of my friends over the years, sometimes love just isn't enough. I believe this VN stands out from some of the other "phone/text" based visual novels for this reason. The dynamic between the wife and MC are not typical for a NTR story-line. My only real complaint is the same I have for most of these "phone/text" based VNs - a lack of imagery. I would challenge all creators, not just this developer, to throw one or two more images per scene into the mix...this not only adds to the overall story it is the visual stimulation most of us are here for in the first place. Otherwise we could write our own NTR story using AI. Overall I would recommend Stepping Over Oneself for anyone interested in a variation in the NTR story-line.
Willbreaker99 2025-06-20
V0.02 MC is terribly unlikeable. Your choices for his are often bad to worse. The few "good" things he does gets shuffled aside in a minute. And speaking of choices they all feel whimsical as if no matter what you pick it's all leading down to the same single point. The Wife is...meh. While it's hard to blame her for feeling neglectful there is so much of her pestering the MC about it when she is loving towards him it feels mechanical at best. Toxic friends are there as usual because of hidden NTR dev laws. Probably. I suppose I should say that the MC friend masks his toxicity behind trying to help but he even has the stones to insist he should be texting your wife to "help out." So far, the story feels like one big angst simulator. By the time we get to the NTR I doubt I'll care about anyone. A few sexy pics so far of the wife sending stuff to the husband but nothing very spicy. I'm not moved one way or the other with what's available so far. It's still technically early in the game. I don't even know if I can find anything good in future releases of this game. The plot has gone so uncomfortably downhill for me so fast. I might still check out the next version purely because I am uncertain if this was even deserving a second star or whether I should have given it 1 star.
