Great cast, fun story although it gets pretty silly when you remember this is about a freshman's first semester in college. One of the games that really pushed AVNs to new heights in cinematic h-scenes. What's almost interesting in its own right is how the story bounces rapidly between real depth and ridiculous caricature for certain side characters. On the other hand, all the interesting minigames aren't worth slogging through the rest of them to get to, and, weirdly enough, the dev has decided to add enough variety in those minigames that you're guaranteed to be annoyed by at least a few! The only thing more puzzling than this design choice is the decision to lock turning them on and off behind starting a new game, so if you don't know how to turn on console in Renpy get ready to look it up at some point or another.

This game is at least 2 steps above from 98% of every other VN's Renders: A++ . Very high Quality, both renders and animations. Every girl is different, from body shape, looks, ethnicity Playability: A+ Minigames are actually "fun" and very polished, and even some have impact in the game. Story: A . The game has a linear path, there aren't huge meaningful choices at all, it doesn't bring anything new as well (a fresher college dude with a big dick fucking from 1 to almost every girl around him. It's an A because girls got different personalities and choices will impact in their relationship through the game. Scenes/XXX: A+++ . Easily in the top 5 of all VN's with no doubt. There's not ANY recycling of scenes.

I'm speechless. The renders are so realistic it's crazy. I love the college setting and the frat house vibes. It feels very nostalgic but also fresh. The girls are gorgeous (Sage is waifu material) and the animations are the best in the business right now. Doc is a genius. Just go play it. You won't regret it.

Initial intro didn't hook me and tbh the character designs are a little creepy to me; uncanny valley. Also wasn't a fan of the Dik vs Chick meter since it makes choices far more complicated than it needs to be. Neutral has it's own scenes, along with Dik and Chick each having their own depending on the scene. Maybe if the reviews hadn't hyped up my expectations I would still be playing. I think it's highly overrated having now played the first hour or two. Lastly, holy monka is the shuffle minigame absolute garbage

As pretty as it is, it's a fairly generic story at its core and it relies heavy on it's renders to do the heavy lifting. Used to be a backer on the patreon but I'll have had kids and see them graduate college before this game every completes but I guess working on something at at a reasonable pace when you're making ~65k a month is too much to ask for. I like to try and give the benefit of the doubt where applicable but I don't see how people are so willing to forgive a sex game developer for taking 10+ years to make a game that has this much monetary support behind it.

How about an honest, critical take of Being a DIK for a change? Is Being a DIK good? If you judge most people's reviews, you would think it was the greatest thing ever. Sure, the renders are slick, the presentation is polished, and Dr. PinkCake clearly knows how to stage a scene. I am not denying that. I have played the game, bought recent chapters on Steam, and supported the Patreon before. This is not blind hate. It is criticism from someone who thinks the game has been praised so hard, for so long, that people have stopped looking at it clearly. And once you do look at it clearly, the first thing that jumps out is how cheap some of the “quality” really is. A huge part of the visual identity people praise is built on premade assets. The characters, the clothes, the environments, the whole package often feels less authored than assembled. Jill, for example, looks like exactly what she is, a store-bought Daz style asset presented well. Even Burgermeister and Royce feels like a symptom of this mentality. The school is called B&R, and the obvious read is that it exists because the default letterman jacket asset already had a BR on it from Blue Rabbit. That kind of thing says a lot. It speaks to a game that is very good at presentation, but far less original than its fans want to admit. The characters people are so attracted to, were not created by DPC. It is one. big. glossy asset flip , elevated by lighting, framing, and momentum. And yes, momentum matters. Because at this point, momentum is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Being a DIK has become so popular that people now treat that popularity as proof of deeper quality. The snowball got big, and now the size of the snowball is the argument. It is the most commercially successful adult visual novel ever made, or close enough that the distinction barely matters. It has had roughly 14,500 paying Patreon supporters at points, overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews, thousands upon thousands of pages of forum discussion, and multiple paid season releases on Steam ranging from about $13.99 to $19.99. Using the rough sales math people always use, around 30 sales per review, you are looking at something like 330,000 Steam sales off roughly 11,000 reviews. That is over $4.6 million on Steam alone before even touching Patreon. Add Patreon, conservatively, at around $100K a month over time, and now we are no longer talking about some scrappy little indie passion project. We are talking about a multimillion dollar production that has had over half a decade to get where it is, yet it has relied on copyright free music and kitbashed assets. So with that kind of money, that kind of time, and that kind of audience, what exactly is the story doing? This is where Being a DIK completely loses me. Strip away the sex scenes, strip away the production sheen, strip away the fan excitement, and what is left? A guy goes to college. He meets the usual spread of jocks, nerds, misfits, mean girls, and conveniently available women. He joins a frat, or does not. He plays minigames. He helps his frat. He deals with bullies who never feel dangerous enough to matter. He goes to class, hangs out, hooks up, gets dragged into low stakes drama, and then another love interest gets added so the whole machine can keep turning. That is the loop. The game keeps hinting at the idea of bigger meaning, bigger tension, bigger payoff, but it never really cashes the check. Where is the overarching conflict? Where are the real stakes? Where is the narrative engine that makes me think, holy shit, I need to know what happens next? For all the praise this game gets, the most difficult challenge at times feels like watering the librarian’s plants in the right order. That is not me being cute. That is the actual problem. This story has been stretched far beyond what its premise can support. The characters have been in their first year of college for nearly six years of real world development. Six years. At this rate, are they ever graduating, or are we heading into Season 5 and 6 where everyone starts working on their PhDs so the Patreon can keep humming? Season 3 alone has dragged on for years. Season 4 is always around the corner. The game no longer feels like a story with a beginning, middle, and end. It feels like a product designed to continue indefinitely. The development of Being a DIK has made enough money it could afford to put all of the characters through college in the USA, and has taken long enough for them to have graduated with masters degrees. And that changes the writing. What once may have been character drama now increasingly feels like soap opera maintenance. Not storytelling, maintenance. New girls, new side plots, new distractions, new mechanics, new reasons to keep the cast in orbit without actually pushing the story toward a real destination. The drama starts feeling more like The O.C. than a tightly built narrative. Conflict happens because something has to happen. The structure is no longer driving toward payoff. It is circling, stalling, vamping for time. That is why the game feels bloated. That is why it feels overrated. And look, I am not saying the game is trash. It clearly is not. If it were trash, people would not still be playing it. Dr. PinkCake deserves credit for making something with this much appeal. He helped push adult visual novels further into the mainstream. He knows how to deliver spectacle, sex appeal, and momentum. But at some point, admiration has to stop turning into immunity. People talk about Being a DIK like it is the untouchable gold standard, and I genuinely do not think the writing earns that status. Because what is this game really building toward? What is the bigger idea? What is the payoff worthy of the money, the time, and the endless seasonal sprawl? Is there some hidden narrative gear about to click into place and make everything before it feel brilliant? Some twist so good it retroactively justifies the bloat? Or are we really just watching a very successful adult game about a random dude in college trying to sleep with every woman in a five mile radius while campus drama endlessly refreshes around him? That is the question people keep dodging. Being a DIK is attractive. It is polished. It is often fun. But it is also inflated by hype, padded by structureless longevity, and protected by a fan culture that seems almost offended by scrutiny. The longer it goes on, the more it feels like a bloated, melodramatic echo of the tighter story it could have been. At some point, the endless development cycle stops looking like creative ambition and starts looking like the business model. And that, to me, is why it is overrated. Not because it is bad. Because it has been elevated far beyond what its actual narrative merits can support. Because people confuse polish with depth, popularity with substance, and longevity with value. Because a multimillion dollar adult VN, after all these years, should probably have more to offer than college hookups, fraternity squabbles, and another new girl introduced to keep the carousel spinning. If people love it, fine. I get why. I even like parts of it myself. But loving something should not mean lying about what it is. Being a DIK is a well presented, highly profitable, beautifully rendered adult soap opera built on premade parts, stretched far past its natural lifespan, and mistaken by many for the best thing ever. That is my honest take.

Story: 10/10 Renders: 9.5/10 Animation: 8/10 Sound: 7/10 Characters: 10/10 Amount of choices: 9.5/10 Amount of lewd content: 9.5/10 Lewd content variety: 7.5/10 Easily the benchmark for all AVN's. This game is probably in everyone's top 3 without a doubt and is my personal #1. I just wish updates didn't take so long because the game is just that damn good.

Overall the game is great. lots interesting characters with fairly well thought out backstories, even for characters you wouldn't have thought would get as much attention as they have. The story is fairly well written, It goes above and beyond most AVNs and tries to tell a compelling coming of age story all with a healthy dose of comedy, drama, raunchy encounters and most of all heart. And while it doesn't hit the mark in all aspects it does it's best to tell a compelling story. As for what I think is the games weaknesses are the biggest issue is with sex scenes. My main issue is the direction in these scenes. They feel flat and robotic, the motion of the characters, facial expressions, angles make the scenes feel like the models are just bumping into each other and a little uncanny valley at times. Especially in the early parts of the game which while expected, hasn't really improved much. Don't get me wrong there are some scenes that are pretty well done but for the most part it's the story not the sex that keeps me invested. Second thing is the mini games I didn't mind them at first but as time got on they started to feel more like ways to pad the game than adding anything meaningful to the game. I know you can turn them off which is appreciated, but playing the minigames at least needs to be fun.

it took me 2 playtroughts of season 1 before getting hook to this game. Now it s my favorite and it s not even close. The character development is remarkable. You can really tell their personalities apart through their dialogue.

This game is on Mt. Rushmore. It is a triumph of a singular visionary, and it drove the genre forward by a decade. That said, yes, it's starting to age out. That visionary has become a tyrant who wants you to play the game 15 times through to fully experience what he has made by hand. It's a slow burn with mini games that will make you roll your eyes until they detatch by the 3rd of those 15 playthroughs. The animations are best in class for DAZ, but the world is starting to move on from those models. I've played through 0.10, but I just can't bring myself to sit through more playthroughs to get through 0.11. ...and still, if you have not played this game, you should. Play through completely blind, but don't expect a harem, and don't expect it to reward you with a new scene every hour - play like you ARE the character in the real world. For all it's flaws, there is nothing quite like BaD.

This is my favorite game on this site. Love the story, the characters, the humor, the quality of the renders, heck I even love the mini games. Before I played this game I was only interested in good sex scenes, but this game gave me much more. I am constantly waiting for the next update.

Greatest AVN I've ever played, the story, characters, graphics, minigames; everything is just amazing. Very good writing which will get you hooked and emotional, came to goon, stayed for the story. 10/10 only complaint would be MC's giant footlong shlong

As my first, and probably even last AVN I'll ever play. I say this is an amazing piece of story. The music is amazing and I listen to it outside the game. The characters are well-written (at least for my standards), and the direction is great. The minigames can be challenging but its engaging enough to put in the effort to learn it (the math minigame). The story, like I said in the beginning, is amazing. I laughed, I cried, I was mad, and it even made me sad. I don't know how other AVNs are made as I only ever played normal video games in my lifetime, so I don't know how much worth my words carry. But, I gotta say, this is the only game I ever played in my life that ever made me feel so emotional about its story and characters. It's worth it.

If you play with the min games on, this is one of the worst games to experience on this site. Decent visuals, but the story flow and choices forced upon the player make it mind-numbingly bad. I do not understand the hype for this game. As a game, meh. As a porn game, bad. Slow action, long inaction and limited payoff and then back to grind. Would not recommend, but a lot of work has gone into it and it has a strange following.

Amazing It's the best game I've ever played. I'm not lying when I say that this game has improved my mood. Aside from the scenes, which are fantastic, the story really makes you feel something, and in AVN that's very difficult to achieve.

This is one of the best on this platform, top 3 for sure. The character models are great and the story has enough branching paths to satisfy everyone. I cannot wait for the next update. I'll be supporting on patreon and you should too if you loved it

Perhaps the best game in this genre, with a lead over its competitors. Its biggest plus is the enormous freedom to choose the main character and the same number of plot answers, each choice affects the world around you, and this is great. A large number of characters of both genders, which are perfectly developed, there is no feeling that the whole world is built only around the main character, the game itself is alive and this is what distinguishes BaDIK from almost all AVN - it is simply on a different level. DPC is in a league of its own where it has no equal. Writing so many branches of the plot, thinking through every step, this humor in the dialogues is simply a masterpiece. This game has only 1 drawback - it ends.

I'm dropping this after a few days, which is quite surprising given the high reviews and how recommended it is by every AVN community. I'm about 6 hours in and haven't been aroused once. In this time, I've seen a man swallow his own condom, that same man put a toothbrush in his ass, 20 dildos fly through a frat house, and many more scenes you could classify as gay. I've seen more sexual scenes with men than women, and the story is not interesting enough to slog through a game that doesn't arouse me at all. It's clearly going for a humorous approach but I find it all very unappealing, and the humor doesn't connect when the 'funny' characters are all assholes I'd rather not interact with. On top of most of the characters thus far being assholes, cheaters, and hoes - the main character himself is a total chud with little personality. This game is routinely rated 5 stars for the characters and story, yet neither have any appeal to me. Maybe I'll try it again sometime because the reviews are so staggeringly positive, with people calling this the best AVN they've ever played, but I've given it 3x the Steam refund requirement time and have not been invested or interested at all

It's an interesting game with a good story. It does it better than most games. If you like a romance game with a lot of story. This game is for you. For me personally it's nothing to fap to and gets somehow boring after some time. I still think it's a good game though.

I'll be honest: I came for the nudity. I simply wanted a game where sex and nudity is part of the experience... and it started just like expected, a plain, uninspiring intro, a simple choice, a bit of revealing graphics. I was about to delete it because I came for something else and the time needed to get there promised to be higher than I was willing to accept. However, things started to change soon. The characters transitioned from being awkward to likeable. The story... the story! I don't know how to put this into words. This has to be the best writing I have ever seen in any AVN. It is absolutely top tier. This "AVN" can honestly compare to the big writers, authors like John Varley or Tad Williams. It's compelling, it's great fun, it's often funny, it sure has some twists, some even unexpected. It keeps you fully engaged. The choices are interesting and give room for lots of different story arcs. Later on, the choices fall back on you. Maybe you wish you would have chosen differently in the past. Here is where the plain or even awkward intro was a great start after all, it did give you the feeling that this is just to "play around", and that is exactly the point! Do play around! Then experience where this will get you. Choices do matter! It's great! Character design is also outstanding, better than in most books, better than in almost every movie I have seen. Yes, this is an AVN, this does allow for better character development by itself, I guess. But even there I have rarely, no, never seen it being used to this extend. So, heed my advice: play this game light-hearted, do not attempt to find "the right path" - because there is no right path! Your choices are the right path. This is another aspect I love about this AVN: there is no clear " right " or " wrong ". It seems like all choices are equally valid, equally rewarding. This is an outstanding AVN design! ...and do keep the minigames on, it's totally worth it.
