Well, this game really surprised me, and I chalk that up to the ratings here. It’s criminally underrated compared to games that don’t deserve half the praise they get. There’s an actual story here and a captivating vibe similar to Ocean’s games. The characters are all great and interesting, each with their own things going on, which makes getting to know them and growing closer genuinely enjoyable. I find myself interested in nearly all the LIs, which is surprising considering I usually only care about a couple. The use of music is fantastic. Each track fits the vibe and characters perfectly. The cinematic use of renders really stands out. They’re so expressive that they convey subtle emotions without needing animation. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for future updates.

A promising story with atmosphere and heart, even if not perfect (Chapter 4). I’ve been following Broken Promises since the early builds, and with the release of v0.403 (Chapter 4), it’s clear the developer has put in serious effort and passion into this project. The amount of work that has gone into the story, renders, and overall presentation is commendable in today’s AVN scene — respect to Light Cavalry for keeping the vision alive and delivering consistent updates. The **story** is genuinely well-directed and interesting. It has that slow-burn mystery and tension that keeps you invested, with decent pacing and some surprising turns. The atmosphere and vibe feel very reminiscent of Ocean’s games like *Summer’s Gone* and *Where It All Began*, but in a more budget-friendly, “economy class” version. While Broken Promises feels noticeably cheaper overall (Ocean being the perfectionist that he is), it’s still polished enough to stand out from the flood of generic AVNs. One of the biggest highlights for me is the **soundscape and music**. The tracks and ambient sounds are beautiful and really enhance the moody, cinematic feel of the game. They add a ton of immersion and elevate scenes that would otherwise feel flat. On the character front, the designs are a mixed bag due to the DAZ engine and likely limited resources. The MC and some side characters look pretty generic, but others are excellent — Grace, Brie, and Afina are genuinely beautiful and among the best-looking in the game. I especially like **Brie**; she gives me strong Vanessa vibes from Summer’s Gone, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how her story develops. The **dialogues** are generally very good and natural most of the time, but they can feel uneven. The scenes involving Grace and her daughter Victoria, in particular, come across as cliché, awkwardly written, almost creepy, and forced. Those moments really stood out in a bad way and pulled me out of the experience. From a technical side, there are very few actual animations — it’s mostly frame-by-frame scenes, which is a slight letdown as some moments feel static. The environment graphics are also one of the weaker aspects; many backgrounds look flat and could use more detail. Finally, some of the female character designs (particularly the enormous breasts on characters like Grace) look unnatural and forced, almost like airbags. It actually detracts from their attractiveness instead of enhancing it. Despite these flaws, my opinion remains very solid. The story direction, atmosphere, beautiful music, and the clear effort from the developer make Broken Promises stand out. It’s original, has heart, and is significantly better than most low-effort AVNs flooding the market. It’s good without being perfect, and that’s exactly why I’m still giving it **4/5**. Worth playing if you enjoy story-driven games with mystery and tension. I’ll happily bump the score higher if the environments, animations, and certain character/dialogue issues get addressed in future updates. Looking forward to the next chapter!

The story is interesting, have some holes here and there but almost every fiction work have those, but still writing can improve, but the visuals are astonishing and have gorgeus models. I'm loving this game!

Broken Promises [v0.403] - Solid 4.5 / 5 This game has an engaging story, that keeps you busy most of the times even forgetting the fact that it misses a lot of the lewd part. I think you have no sex scenes up to ch. 3.5, maybe some lewd naked scenes but that is pretty much it. What I love about this VN is the attention to small details in some scenes, I was expecting many times to see logic error but almost all the times I was presently surprised that characters actually behaved like humans and not puppets, the most recent in memory the pool party, MC shoves his feet into the pool, my mind was like so dirty shoes in pool, really, but then I noticed the shoes were beside MC, so the dev bothered to make the scene logical, and there are many scenes like this, small attention to details that are immersive because they are simple common details that are logical. The sex scenes are not bad per say, but I feel like they lack something, while the renders and animations are good something is missing can't say what exactly. Considering MC is doing undercover work I expected MC to be able to fall into depravity, going to clubs, hooking with random women that are consuming said drugs distributed by the Syndicate, you know doing some things that a cop won't do but an undercover cop will need to do to keep his cover. it is a good play, but at some point it needs a bit more sex scenes, casual encounters, that would personally trigger Vanessa that would definitely spy on MC on some hidden CCTV.

GODDAYUM, what a game, man!, it seriously is a damn good game, the thrill i got while playing and the branching and all of that, plus how smooth it is, i seriously felt the same thrill i feel when playing BAD, but this one just without sandbox, free roam, fighting mini-game etc, but the game, the story, the art holy smokes, i'm glad i came across this game, even more so after ch4, seeing the game having completed a good chunk of story, i liked it, kudos to dev and may be able to get all the support necessary to complete the game faster, these days its hard to come by good game with good story, branching and the art to compliment it all, it easily can be in the same club of summer's gone(except there are sex scenes in here ), BAD, city of broken dreamers etc, now i'm excited for the next update.

Just for Girls I like this a lot. Plot wise its ok but the work that is put in for the quality of images are good and the pace for sex is good. It would be good if sex scenes gets started with any LI. I will add this to my favorites.

For those who played the first version of this game and are playing these new ones, you know how much the story and the game itself have changed. The story makes much more sense, the characters are also much more cohesive, and the graphics are much better. The game has changed drastically, and it's great to follow this story; each episode that ends leaves you eager for the next. This is certainly one of the best games with this undercover cop theme currently in production.

Criminally low rating for such a good game! Beautiful renders, the characters actually talk and act like real people, and the story keeps you immersed. If you're scared off by the lower rating, ignore it and play the damn game!

Very good visuals. Interesting story with a MC who is not, at the moment, a superhuman "can do everything well" type of protagonist. Story is well defined, in a good context. The text is not uselessly verbose, and can use pictures to convey emotions and tension. I'm quite very enthusiastic and will review this when the project is finished. It can become easily a 5 stars work when everything is done. (It may also not and remain a 4, or lower to a 3 if the story starts being less interesting/rushed, or girls are too numerous without focus.)

Interesting story, good looking love interests. Looking forward to seeing how the plot evolves. Could be more interactive, with more decision making. Some minor issues here and there but overall, pretty good.

Another pretty render simulator. No meaningful content, barely any lewd scenes. Dialogue diarrhoea so many renders are just bloatware for this game. It has no reason to be 7gb. Plot writes like a edgy wattpad story and the development time is atrocious.
DIKHammer 2025-11-23
This is very good, not 5 stars good but it could be. LI's are complex but very interwoven. There clearly is not going to be a harem here. Also beautiful looking despite my not loving tats - Afina. Even Grace & Eveline who are more OK are still very good looking. Brie has one of the best bodies in any AVN Quirky (IYKYK) is the best written cat in an AVN not overly bitchy. Plot is pretty decentish. Biggest detractor here is dev time currently
SingularityEvent 2025-08-15
At first glace this looks pretty good. Render quality, sound and writing seems decent, however i'm only like 30 min in and already it's falling apart. MC is supposedly the best police dective in the city and seems to be mid 20's, but everyone calls him kid or boy wtf, good way to scare off any adult reader who is not into sissification. Then he and his swat? partner just lets some thug blow his own head off while they have him at gun point, I mean seriously the thug was reloading his assault rifle and they just let him pull out a gun and shot himself in the face wtf. Then he goes undercover at a nearby university, like seriously how is the city's top detective not gonna be recognized there, he goes to a meeting with the dean who also immidiately proceeds to call this top tier undercover police officer kid, fucking rude and respectless. This is as far as I got atm, may revise this review if it gets better. But so far I can only say that this needs a rewrite to be even remotely plausible. Edit After completing 0.38 conclusion is that everything except the main plot is pretty well done. However the whole undercover police investigation part of this avn is full of holes and really needs rewrite. Strongly suggest dev to read up on how undercover and general police work is done if they are gonna write a plausible avn on the subject. MC needs to be smarter, he is making rookie mistakes and that combined with alot of the cast calling him boy or kid simply doesn't work with the "being best detective" and capable/experienced enough to be assigned an undercover mission. These types of flaws could be acceptable in a parody/comedy or fuckfest avn, but it is not functional in an avn with this type of serious/realistic tone. In general this avn could be a 4-5 star, but because of the mentioned flaws it brings the avn down to 2.

Top tier renders like 8/10, except something wrong with breasts especially covered by cloth. Graphics, scenes are mostly great. But writing... Jesus Crist... who wrote this? It's just horrible, how it happened alongside with professional renders there is a child-like writing quality? And despite the file size there is not much of a real content, too much renders wasted on absolute useless talks, without plot moving, character development or sex scenes. This VN fooled me and wasted my time for nothing.

Excellent game! A rare genre with great potential. Undercover/Detective/Mafia stories are as real as they can get so the potential here is great if rightly developed. The fact that you can "play the field" with the MC before choosing a single LI down the road, is a fresh breath on it's own gamewise bypassing entirely the pantheon of "harem" orientated games which are flooding the VN type of games. For the people of knowledge, realism and not loving mindless screwing around I recommend this game!

Broken Promises [v0.38] Woah, wasn't expecting to enjoy this anywhere near as much as I did due to the overall ratings, but glad I ignored it and gave this game a chance. This is for sure a diamond in the rough! Pros - - Renders are very nice. - The MC isn't a pushover and has a backbone. - The characters are all interesting and feel quite authentic, and most of them look good (some of them have kinda odd appearances) - There is A LOT of tension built between the LI's and the MC through body language, subtle looks, gestures and interactions. The dev knows how to build tension (romantic, sexual, conflicted etc) amongst the characters and all those little details are often neglected but REALLY add so much. I give major props to the developer for this. So much good use of camera work and body language to convey how these characters are feeling. There are times where characters just don't even talk, yet their eyes and facial expressions will say it all. The art of subtlety! - The story is suspenseful and engaging, it's got a real calm before the storm vibe going on and I am all for it. - Kylie (holy hell is she stunning, especially in that black dress god damn, def best girl in my eyes) - Tianna (what I said earlier about tension... she has an insane lingering tension with the MC and it's very sexy. The way she looks at the MC with those longing, doting eyes is something else, bonus points for being the MC's boss and being a milf. I kid you not, I haven't seen so much tension in a VN before between a character and an MC like this.) - Time is being spent building the relationships between characters, the girls aren't all just hopping on the MC's dick from the word go, which is great. I am so tired of the stories where the MC just gets everything easy, that's no fun. Cons - - Grammar and English could be better. The writing is fine and I was never scratching my head trying to figure anything out, but there are a lot of typos. Even in the opening disclaimer there's a few. - As previously mentioned, some of the characters look off. Mostly the parents of some of the characters, they have weird hair colours and some don't even look old enough to have fully grown teens/adults as kids. A couple of the LI's look disproportionate and a bit "uncanny valley-esque" Grace in particular. Kylie more than makes up for this though, and it is just my opinion. The "Ryan" character also looks like a dude in his mid thirties, looks way too old to be in university. - The older female characters keep calling the MC "boy". I hate this, personal pet peeve of mine. - I am confused that Kylie and Afina are twins but Kylie seems older and is a working lawyer, while Afina is a university student? Overall - if it weren't for the grammar and a few other small grievances I'd be giving this project 5 stars easily. If you're looking for a VN that has a more realistic and grounded feel to it, this is a great choice. The story is engaging, full of mystery, conflict and intrigue.

Game Version : v0.38 It's rare for me to give any AVN a review - much less a 5-star rating - but what "Broken Promises" has done is captured lightning in a bottle. Character Driven Each character in this story has some kind of background that makes them feel three dimensional rather than flat, uninteresting set pieces. It's clear from the start that the plot is driven by everyone, not just the protagonist (which is rare in any form of media). The author seems to have well fleshed out character sheets for everyone and manages to set up meaningful arcs for each one regardless of their role. It's also rare to see an author incorporate dynamic relationships between characters that aren't strictly controlled/altered by the protagonist, as is evident by the interactions we see between Eveline and Brie, or Afina and Kylie. Additionally, the relationships we can alter in some way are properly set up so it doesn't feel as though we're the sole reason for the change - such as the relationship between Alice and Tianna. To shorten everything mentioned above, what you get with the characters is believable stories with properly telegraphed pitfalls that drive their character arcs. (Mostly) Cinematic Rendering It seems as though the developer had some growing pains in the initial few releases that seem to have been remedied... However, it's currently impossible to spot any differences in quality between chapter 1 and chapter 3.5. While Daz models range in quality, Light Calvary seems to have invest some time into rendering higher poly versions with extremely detailed UV mapping. Blemishes, eyes, and age marks all aid in making each character feel unique and has been used to great effect here. The few issues present in the current release include: Clipping between characters when they physically touch Harsh edges between the sclera and iris, which is easily visible in close-ups Discrepancies in lighting quality that change between scenes (i.e. darker to brighter) Overall the renders are top notch without over-detailing characters and objects. It seems as though the dev has a proper piepline for rendering, so here's hoping he maintains consisency without falling for the allure of more detailed modeling. Writing So this is where we get a mixed bag in terms of quality. The underlying plot follows the standard story structure with a well paced exposition and inciting incident. Additionally, Light Calvary also seems to be following a three act story arc wherein we're just reaching the climax of the first act, so I have high hopes we'll see consistency within the story from that aspect. The key issue with the writing is grammar... To elaborate, the writing is full of mispelled words, odd punctuation, and broken sentence flows. The lack of an editor is painfully obvious alongside any sort of personal review by the dev. Internal monologuing is indistinguishable from narration, words are repeated, and dialogue in general doesn't feel as organic as a taditional script. The end result is the audiences' brains needing to work overtime in correcting these issues which detract from the otherwise engaging plot in a detrimental fashion. Final Thoughts... Despite the negatives outlined above, the quality for the rest of this AVN carries this project into 5-star territory. The few issues present are nowhere near egregious enough to warrant a lower rating. To Light Calvary directly (if you're reading): Spend some time setting up and maintaining a render library alongside values you commonly use. This will help with overall consistency and streamline some of the rendering process. Outsource an editor This can either be community volunteer work, or agreeing to a percentage comission for each month work is performed Refactor the choice menus when implementing a recursive menu There are a few instances where choices aren't removed from the menu which can be fixed by incuding logic statements within the choice (i.e. "[mc_name] checks out the living room" if not temp1 This is such a fantastic story that I genuinely hope it reaches completion.

So far, I am really loving this game. It has all the important aspects needed to be one of the top games as it gets longer, too. Great and lovable characters, gorgeous renders, and well thought out writing. Can't wait to see more!
Macky009 2024-10-14
The game is quite good the design of the mc is very generic but the LI are one of the best I've seen in games. The story has unexpected twist that make it quite engaging. Truth be told I am more invested in the story over the sex scene
Danarchist 2024-09-19
As many reviews have called out, this game has very nice renders with a somewhat interesting idea for a plot. Sadly the writing is just horrendous. A detective going "undercover" but immediately tells anyone who asks that he is a detective. The way he interacts with the female characters is also really awkward. He talks to someone in passing once and then acts as if they are close friends who tell each other everything. The way the characters interact is just so unnatural, weird and inconsistent. I know this game has already had 2 reworks, but as it stands now the first 2 chapters really don't work at all. Chapter 3 was better, but I would bet a lot of people will drop it before making it to that.
