About Chess Game

Chess Game is a Ren'Py adult game by Janus Paradox with a 3DCG animated presentation. It follows a male protagonist obsessed with chess, who sees chess in life and wonders who moves the pieces. The premise starts with a 2021 crisis that accelerated artificial intelligence and inspired conspiracy theories, then asks players to examine past, present, and future together to uncover a larger truth. It blends sci-fi, BDSM, and domination themes with cyberpunk and philosophical influences, and rewards slow, attentive play.

The current build is v0.04, released August 16, 2023, and development continues. It runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac in English, with no censorship. The latest changelog entry is v0.031, which added skipping for mini games and cut scenes. The first release was v0.01.

Developer's description

In 2021, seemingly the most senseless crisis in the history of humanity occurred. It was preceded by many events and led to many consequences, such as the rapid development of artificial intelligence. On the other hand, this crisis overshadowed things that are more important to humans. Many conspiracy theories and speculations by ordinary people developed about why all of this was happening. However, the only way to discover the truth is to look at the bigger picture. You can find the real answer by examining the past, present, and future simultaneously, which is made possible by this game. The story follows a character who is obsessed with chess and sees not only chess on the chessboard but also in life. He wonders who is moving the pieces in real life. Warning: Spoiler This game is tailored for fans of cyberpunk, and films such as The Matrix, Blade Runner, and Fight Club, as well as TV series such as The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. It also embraces styles akin to David Lynch and Ingmar Bergman, intertwined with elements of psychology, philosophy, and art. If these themes and styles aren't to your liking, this game will not resonate with you. To truly appreciate the depth of the game, it's essential to play slowly and attentively. Every detail is crucial. If you're not one to pay close attention or prefer not to engage in deep reflection, this game will not suit you.
