Dark Times

I didn't expect much when I went into this. AI art? I *hate* AI art. HTML engine? I like HTML, but 98% of HTML games (and damn near 100% with AI art) are slapdash efforts from people trying to make a fast buck with minimal effort, or people who have literally no idea how to make a game. So imagine my surprise when I found this game to be well thought out, vividly imagined, successfully implemented, hot as hell, and a ton of fun. The basic gameplay loop is solid, the economy makes sense, and the multiple endings thus far implemented are universally good (Beggar's Bottom Bitch is my favorite). It makes me want more, a lot more, and right frickin' now. And speaking of more, there is room for a lot of development, with additional "good endings" as well as more things to develop just based on what's already been presented. It would be simple to add additional NPC factions just by adding new areas. It's not perfect, of course. There are a few issues that are irksome. The midgame and endgame can get awfully grindy, although that could be a function of the very early stage of development. The only ending that doesn't involve the PC a mindless bimbo sex slave is the "good ending" that can only be achieved by avoiding almost all the sex in the game, but there's no reason why there can't be endings that involve tons of sex but also place the MC in a position of power (courtesan to the powerful and bandit queen leap immediately to mind) but this would require another mechanic whereby some kinds of sex don't incur Submission gains -- not all that difficult to implement. At this stage of the game, it really, really pushes you toward bimbo sex slave endings, which can be frustrating and straitjacketing. None of these niggles should deter you from playing Dark Times. It's a gem.

Before you mention the game size, it's available online and there's a compressed download that's very easy. This has all the themes I love in a game and it would be five stars but it's incomplete and there's a few errors and missing content that effects the game. Otherwise, it's a really well put together fantasy game. Halfway between an open world sandbox sex game and a fantasy RPG like Battle Quest.

One of the better games available here. The atmosphere is engaging, the world feels well developed, and it has strong potential for future development. The game is engaging enough to make you want to try different paths and see every ending.

[v0.75-compressed] For a little project that got out of hand this game is amazing. After playing for a few hours, I just want to see more of the world this game is building. The gifs are good enough and serve their purpose (humans stand in for high fantasy creatures during sex scenes), I can kind of suspend disbelief and go with that. The ai cg is really not bad at all. The most important positive for me is the amount of content there already is and the simplicity (there is no overkill UI) The plot, quests, locations, characters are all really interesting. I hope that this project continues. Really, the only thing this game needs is continuation, more quests, more things to discover, more interactions to discover. The negatives of this game are so minor that it's almost not worth mentioning: the amount of links on one page can get a bit confusing in the very beginning, because there is no arrangement the destinations you can go to and the places of interest in the current location are all links arranged vertically, using the same color. the battle system isn't interesting (it's neither easy, nor impossible), but a bit boring. the size is of course a big issue, I wouldn't have tried this game if there wasn't a compressed version. These issues are subjective and don't matter so much even to me. If you can live with art-style swapping between real (for sexual content) and ai in most other instances then it's a worth a shot.

Games alright good amount of scenes half AI half Real porn gifs however the 2 things bringing this game down is how grindy getting the ending scenes are and how ridiculously huge the file size is like holy shit 33gb by the time this game is finished it will be bigger than fully modded skyrim.

overly bloated game size, means pictures are not consistent and just random images from the internet. html games have no reason to be over 2gb, anything more than that is unnecassary gifs. online version looks sketch as well.

One of the best sandbox games on this engine, simple, doesn't require multiple playthroughs to achieve different results, and features leveling, equipment, and inventory. The GIFs are also among the best in the genre; it's a great game.

This is on version 0.7. Dark Times is a collection of extremely short porn sequences, with absolutely no effort put forth to develop any form of character, corruption, or story. Visuals are awful. There's very nearly zero attempt to keep the AI generated images consistent, and the real porn usage contrasts with the AI severely. Pages have large spacing issues, sometimes having entire gaps in text going off-screen and requiring the player to scroll down to see their options. Menus are missing stat information, the inventory doesn't account for items. All-in-all, there's little salvageable here. It's just very clear the author does not know what they're doing. Assuming the author reads this, here are some suggestions I have for them: - Learn a bit more about the system you're using. The use of Twine is extremely basic, and while it doesn't have to be complex, it currently isn't working for you. - Decide on whether you want to use exclusively real porn or exclusively AI. Given it's a fantasy setting, I really recommend the latter. - Revise your image system. You need to learn about image formats, image compression, and should ditch the gifs as they're part of why the size of your game is ballooning and they're causing pages to load slowly. Yes, I recognize you want some "animated" visuals, no it's not working. - Focus first on a few specific storylines you want to develop. As an example, the shady merchant hypnotizing you not progressing to anything makes the whole thing a tad silly. That's the biggest issue, nothing here leads into anything, you need depth over breadth. - You have a lot of female characters you're not doing anything with. While it's clear you've intended them more as set pieces and bimbos, you may want to actually flesh a couple of them out to make it feel less absurd.

This is my first ever review on this site - Dark Times is probably the best HTML game of its type (with kinks that I'm into!) that I've played so far and I've played a buuuunch. The writing is great, the grind isn't TOO horrible (for sex stuff at least) and the images and captions along with them are fantastic. I can't wait for this to be fleshed out more and I hope the creator decides to make more after finishing this (or just expand this one even further with different female main characters please please please)

Rev @ Dark Times [v0.7] Bit of a gassed-up mid situation. Not worth the hype, download time, or disk space. Art's a blend of realporn and AI. I don't have any bias against AI, so I found it fine. Scenario's been done, narrative is weak (normal for a sandbox), characterization is flat. Some continuity nods are neat, but most of what I found was a nothingburger. The writing fluency and the voice reminds me of many of the Russian QSP games and does grate a bit. Porn's pretty rote. Looks good, glad there isn't a ton of toilet porn, wish the preg & milking mattered more. Gameplay is also like every other one of these. There's no innovation or unique selling points. Definitely not worth 27gb of diskspace overhead. TLDR: I reserve the right to hope the next versions improve.

Remarkably competent html that does what it should. Rating is based on compressed version, 25gb for oversize gifs would rate lower, but the game itself is fun and generally free of annoyances, and its pretty good.

Very good game in general, it rings some nostalgia bells for me of some other sandbox games. I like the almost singular focus on the effect the orcs of the setting have. The grind for levels and for events is pretty good. There is just enough story and background to make the setting believable. My only negative is that the combat is rather shallow, it seems like there are only the skills you start with. Overall I think the game is really good and with community help is well put together, compression really helps, with a little more work and story it'll make for a good game.

+ gameplay is pretty fun + art and pick of images is not bad - size (even compressed), thing is huge for bunch of images, sounds and text files... - not much to do overall better than normal visual novel, but is too big for how little it offers

I believe this is a good game with great gifs, pictures and what not. AI did not hurt the eye or have any blaring problems. Here is good and bad thing this game do. GOOD: 1-) Pregnancy. This game got this with a whole system and what not. It could be flourished but It is there. 2-) RPG and Quest Systems. It is easy to navigate and understand. While RPG part was a bit basic, I like it. Why make it complicated am I right? 3-) Consistency. There is no blaring problem with the visuals. MC was blonde and every gif and what not honor that. Other characters and gifs mostly obey this rule as well. 4-) Content. There is a decent corruption and sexual aspects in the game. You don't became a whore right away but there is a methodical climb to it. BAD: 1-) There is no short cuts. There is many HTML / Twine games that makes use of short cuts that speed up the clicking. You can press 1 and 2 and 3 to make choices which is necessary. Degress of Lewdity and Course of Temptation use this system. You can check em out. 2-) There is not many Persistent NPC's that we can have a real relationship with. Sure you can persistently have a thing with one of the NPC's but it is always limited and without your control. Innkeeper? Only when you need room or he visit you. Bazaar? If you get brainwash. Any orcs? Coarse and deception. I want to have a relationship with romance and what not. 3-) There is not many Quest to go around and the one you make force you to do specific things without any other way. Like Alchemist Quest. You force to be pregnant. Or Jewelers Quest make you brainwashed to Bazaar guy. No other options to reseolve. Even if there is alternatives, this leads to our 4th Bad. 4-) No Wiki or Walkthough. I mean sure exploration is good and all but some people wants to know specific routes. I believe there should a detailed wiki or walkthrough to show us the way. 5-) EXP gain ways is too limited. You want to level up? The 'only' way for you to do that is hunting. But you want to be or force to be a Bimbo? Tough luck you will get Dom Points for hunting. If you can hunt. There should be more ways to get EXP IMHO. 6-) For the love of the god add SELL ALL button. I hate to sell the Apples and what not. What Can Be Added? 1-) More intricate relations with NPC. I expect the Farmer get close to me after thirtied time I worked there. I expect that Pig to share more and do more for me after two months of my stay. The old lady from Slum should be seen again. 2-) More than 1 way to solve quests. 3-) Walkthrough. 4-)Romance and story continuation. 5-) Sell All Button 6-) And Compression. I'm not saying it's bad but it's not really good too.

Content is great and quite enjoyable, but you may want to look into compressing some of the images to get the game size down. I was surprised on how much there was for a first release. AI images are used for world building but not the scenes. Scenes are well done for an early version. Hope to see more!

actually quite a good start of a corruption game quite a lot of content and some interesting endings. there is a lot of Pregnancy in this game you basically cannot avoid it but there are was to speed it up to make it more or less instant. The choice of gif for the massive number of animations is a bit unfortunate since the creator seems to have fallen in a sunk cost fallacy there but you can use the compressed version.

Its not special but its very nice, if you ignore the size of the file there is nothing wrong with it. Not a ton of content but quite some and fun to play, I gues its not going anywhere as so many of these games but it should... and the size should get reduced by a lot - there is no good reason its so big

Minor update for 0.75 - The developer is apparently aware of the issues with the astronomical download size and isn't that concerned I guess? I would avoid until something is done about it. Review of 0.7 tl;dr - Average html 'sandbox' style female-protag game that is let down primarily by the enormous size of the install. ---- Pros : Pregnancy with at least some progression/featuring in scenes A few different character models A few different 'love interest' options (a lot of rape/non-con) A vague storyline/quest system Combat system is okay Cons : Most of the scenes are extremely similar Heavily focused around breaking you into a bimbo/submission for most content A few incomplete passages/parts to the game Limited actual content ---- It's fine, reminiscent of Battle Quest that I played long ago but, in my opinion, distinctly less interesting and compelling to play. I don't care about the MC at all (not a requirement for a porn game but it helps) and I don't care about any of the other characters either. The adult content is okay but very repetitive after a while. There's a few 'endings' although I could only find one. There's pregnancy with humans/orcs/pigman + eggpreg but it's pretty limited in scope. The sex is oral/vaginal/anal with humans/orcs/pig/tentacles (didn't find anything else). Overall an average game massively let down by the enormous download size. Until that's rectified it's hard to recommend, but worth a look if you like sandbox style html fprotag games.

Pretty interesting game so far, some of the routes aren't that long but I ended up finding more features I didn't expect. Some characters you interact with once then can crop up later and specific moments which surprised me. Pros - Hot scenes - Fun quests - Interesting premise Con - Sheer Size - Some routes feel drastically to short but this is only at 0.7 -Unbalanced combat
