About Helward: A Tanuki Story

Helward: A Tanuki Story is a gay furry romance visual novel by Dangpa, built in Ren'Py with 2D CG artwork. You play Howl, a tanuki who has spent a year in an intimate long-distance relationship and now travels to pursue the person he loves. The story is set in Helward, a fantastical city near the outskirts of Hell where magical beings, demons, and other residents live together. Howl’s bad luck brings repeated mishaps, while the city hides dangers, secrets, and a wider history that unfolds as he meets friends and enemies.

The current build is v0.2.6, released April 23, 2023, and development remains in progress. It runs on Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android in English, with no censorship. The supplied notes for v0.2.0 added roughly 15,000 words to the main story, new artwork, new music and sounds, and updated audio for earlier extra scenes. They also describe Howl arriving in Helward and facing plans that keep him from simply resting.

Developer's description

Helward is a gay furry romance VN about a fish out of water tanuki named Howl. After a year of an intimate long-distance relationship, he will finally pursue his romantic interest. Given his propensity for misfortune, many mishaps await Howl in his efforts for love. On top of that, in the territory of Helward secrets and dangers abound. He'll have much to overcome while also juggling secrets of his own. This story takes place in Helward. A fantastical city on the outskirts of Hell where magic beings, demons, and folks cohabitate. As Howl's story progresses, more will be unveiled about the history of the city and the lands surrounding it as he encounters new friends and even enemies.

All he wants to do is go home and take a nap, but it seems life has other plans for this tanuki. V0.1.5 Contains the "Dragon Slayer" Content! Experience the adventures of the Dragon Slayer on his retro quest to defeat the dragon. He'll face many challenges, and if you're not careful, he may end up in the clutches of evil! You can access this content through the game console in the Extra Content menu. There's also a gallery feature; find and unlock all the scenes available! There are 3 scenes in total, 1 good ending and 2 bad endings. V0.1.1 Play through the prologue intro and learn a little about the world, as well as make a new friend. After you've finished the prologue you can play the Extra Content, "Adult Movie" by clicking on the Extra hidden in the background of the main menu.
