This is a story-focused update, featuring over 1,100 new images and 45 animated scenes. For comparison, before v13, the average number of new animated scenes per update ranged from 15 to 20. Under normal circumstances, we focus on advancing 3-4 girls’ stories in an update. One girl will have the most scenes, while the others get fewer. To put it more intuitively, one girl is S-tier in an update, while the other 2-3 are A-tier, B-tier, or C-tier. In v14, Molly, Sorring, and Alnilam’s story got updated, but unlike before, this time all three of them are S-tier. Each of them has plenty of new erotic scenes and significant story progression. As a result, my workload this time was immense, and I faced tremendous pressure. I’ve been completely absent from Discord and Patreon recently, and I’m truly sorry for that. But I had no choice—I had to stay absolutely focused. As the only writer for PHOENIXES, every minute I spend elsewhere delays the game’s update by a minute. While the amount of content in v12 is just as large, we actually expected to finish it in a noticeably shorter time, but unfortunately, we didn’t meet that goal. We had a very tough time in this update cycle. Too many setbacks and unexpected issues disrupted our plans again and again. I'll be posting a detailed explanation in a few days. But don't worry, these hiccups didn't impact the quality of v12 in any way. This update is just as packed with content as any other, featuring 900+ new images and animated scenes. Cassy, Heather, Osonia, Sorring, and Fuying will have new scenes. Now, let’s take a look at what we have for you in this update: New Map and UI Enhancements We’ve never been satisfied with the background map in the game. The background map is the image people see the most, but our previous map was just too rough and ugly. After reworking the free-roaming system in v11, we’re bringing a brand-new city map background in v12, along with further UI improvements, like redesigned the New Event bubble. The free-roaming screen now looks completely different from what it was in v10. We’re happy to have refreshed the game’s look in two updates. Please note that with the new map, the layout of locations has also changed a bit from before. General improvements Old save files from before v11 (the ones that couldn’t be loaded or deleted in v11) will no longer be in your save menu. The Android version will no longer experience long freezes when opening the save menu for the first time. Cassy's story Let's talk about Cassy. I know a lot of people like her, but honestly, I made some big mistakes when designing this character. To make her more unique, I gave her traits like "no emotions " and "mechanical arms," but these traits ended up becoming barriers to her story development. How is a robot with no emotions supposed to fall in love with a human? As a robot, she doesn’t even have the capacity to love, or at least not in the way you love her. And she can't get horny like the other girls, even if she acts horny, she's faking it. This kind of character might work in a sweet, PG12 romance story, but she doesn't really have her position in an adult game. Another issue is that her background is extremely shallow. She’s from a mysterious Wakanda-like country, with no childhood, no growth, no past. And it’s hard for me to give her those things because she’s a robot. So, she's a character with a weak backstory and very limited room for development... I’ve designed a character like this before, which was Rachel from VIRTUES . And that girl ended up with a story that was abandoned halfway. But this time, I don’t want Cassy’s story to hit a dead end too. I know I did a mistake and this time I will do everything to set things back on the right track again. In this update, I spent a great amount of time developing her story, tried to deepen her character, make up for my past mistake, and find a somewhat plausible way for her to have emotions or love I’m not sure if everyone will like the way her story is heading, but I’ve done everything I can within my abilities. I hope it’s not too late to make things right, and I hope you’ll enjoy her scenes and look forward to her future change. The elven sisters Another big thing of this update is that your harem is finally becoming a reality. Osonia will officially become your girlfriend, and both she and Sorring will happily accept the fact that they have to share you and your love from now on. A good start, right?~ You’ll be able to raise their harem acceptance level to 10 and unlock new harem events for them. v0.11 This is the 11th version of PHOENIXES and a new beginning for the game. Hmmm… perhaps you can even consider v11 as the first version of PHOENIXES 2.0. We hope this update will lay a solid foundation for the future development of PHOENIXES. As I mentioned in previous posts, in v11, your old saves will no longer be usable. We’ve added and changed so many things to the game that made it impossible to be compatible with old saves. You’ll need to start a new game in v11, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Now, let’s see what we’ve prepared for you: Complete reworked the free-roaming system and map UI Now, locations on the map are no longer just for show. You can actually click on a location to open a menu of available actions, such as scavenging, doing paperwork, raising girls' love levels, or even triggering special side stories. And of course, you can still keep the old habits and raise girls' love levels through bubble events above locations. We’ll continue to add more interesting actions on the map in future updates. Side storylines I have some ideas for erotic scenes that don’t quite fit in the main storyline and should have some independent plot space for expansion. So in this update, we introduced the concept of ‘side storylines.’ These side stories will allow you to learn more about your girls from new angles. The main scenes of a side storyline will gradually unlock as the girl’s love level increases. In v11, we’ve created side storylines for Heather, Sorring, and Osonia, with Heather’s and Sorring’s being quite complete (since their love level is already high). We aim to add at least one side storyline for every girl in future updates. Side storylines are triggered by special actions that appear at specific times in locations. Detailed information is recorded in the Status screen, so you don’t need to worry about missing them. Main storyline I got some feedback from time to time about some girls' relationships with the MC heating up too quickly, and I do acknowledge this issue. To make sure we had enough new erotic scenes in each update, we had to advance some girls' stories fast so they could provide more and more erotic scenes for us. And now it’s time to slow down and readjust the whole story. In this update, we didn’t advance any girl's main storyline; they remain where they left off in v10. However, we’ve inserted many new scenes into the girls’ existing stories to flesh out the characters and make things less abrupt. Heather, Sorring, Osonia, Alnilam, Juliana, Molly, and Cassy all have new scenes more or less. New function for Novella’s office Since v2, we haven’t added any new events to Novella’s office because I couldn’t think of any erotic content that needed to happen there. In fact, creating some erotic content in just a short, repeatable event seemed pointless as well. So, in v11, we changed the role of this room and rewrote the events there. It’s no longer just a trigger for uneventful erotic short events. Now the events happening in this room will help flesh out the club members’ characters better. A detailed tutorial page After making so many changes to the game system, some guidance might be necessary. New club upgrades In v11, your initial AP limit will only be 1, but you can gradually increase it to 3 through club upgrades. Reworked over 200 poorly-performing old images Most of them are relics from the v0.1 era. After this huge redo, over 90% of the old images from v0.1 have been replaced with better versions. We will continue to redo more poorly-performing old images in future updates. Revised plots We’ve systematically modified some plot texts to make the early MC more… likable. Rewritten biographies for the girls We were unsatisfied with the biographies added in the last version because they only retold the plot you’ve already experienced without adding more information about the girls. In this update, we’ve completely rewritten all the biographies. Now these bios should help you understand your girls better. v1.01 Talismans This is the first What-if chapter for PHOENIXES. v0.10 v10 is the biggest update of PHOENIXES so far, even bigger than v9, with 1100+ new images and animated scenes. It is double the content of many previous updates. I don’t think we will ever make a bigger update in the future. In future update cycles, we will strive to keep the volume of updates and development time within a more reasonable and rational range. Now let’s take a brief look at what we have in v10: - Improved the clock UI: The old clock was not even a real circle but rather a rough polygon that looked like a circle. Now we’ve made it more circular and added more lighting effects to it. - Reworked the album system: Now there won’t be any lagging issue when viewing images in the album. - Implemented the biography system: The Records screen has always been relatively unimportant since it is entirely unrelated to gameplay. Your gaming experience wouldn’t be affected even if you never viewed this screen. But it must exist because there has to be a place to record a dozen girls’ information. However, this unimportant screen has become almost entirely useless since v2. Due to coding issues, the girls’ information could not be updated in time, for example, Cassy’s description still says ‘I don’t know much about her yet’ even if she has been your maid for so long. This obviously needed improvement. In v10, we replaced the previous character introductions with a biography system. Every time your relationship with a girl progresses to a new significant stage, a new segment of textual content about her will be unlocked in her record. We believe this improvement will at least restore this screen from ‘completely useless’ to ‘unimportant’ again. - Numerous bugs fixed: - Fixed the issue that caused the game unable to return to the subplot screen after skipping a subplot to its end. - Fixed the issue in the PC version where the first text triggered after opening the game does not pop up a dialogue box. - Fixed a display bug that occurs when opening the Status screen for the first time in each time period. - Fixed the issue that caused the game to only display thumbnails for the latest 15 saves. - New girl’s debut: Enyora In v10, a new villain girl will make her debut. She is a high-IQ schemer and politician, using explosive high-tech playing cards as weapons. Her appearance signifies a new phase in the main story. The city is getting more chaotic every day as the mayoral election approaches, and soon there will be more new girls coming on the stage. - New sexable girl: Osonia In v10, you will be able to have sex with Osonia for the first time, but please note that you will have to reach a certain level of intimacy with Sorring first. Unlike other girls, Osonia and Sorring’s stories are highly interconnected. The independent storylines of the girls are now beginning to weave together. Your harem fantasies are starting to become a reality. And now let’s take a look at what we have for you in this update: The system part (v9): - New stat for girls: Harem acceptance level It might sound familiar if you’ve played VIRTUES before. This stat represents my understanding and philosophy of the harem. I believe a harem is all about honesty. All the girls in your harem should know that they are not your only love. Otherwise you’d be deceiving them, and I don’t like that. As the story progresses, your girls will become more accepting of the fact that they are sharing you with other girls, and they will have bolder actions as their Harem acceptance level gets higher. In this update, you can increase the harem acceptance level for Heather, Cassy, Osonia, and Sorring. And you can unlock their initial harem stories once their acceptances reach 5. - New short event type: Harem playlet After raising certain girls’ love points to a specific level, there will be some repetitive harem playlet about them showing on map randomly. Experiencing one of such events will increase certain girls’ harem acceptance levels. In v9, you will see the harem playlets for “Heather & Cassy” and “Osonia & Sorring.” - New Textbox UI We’ve redesigned the UI of the textbox and used unique colors for each girl’s name. Hopefully this will enhance your gaming experience. - Improved game guidance Now you will be informed when there is an unlockable club upgrade. - Some small optimizations - After watching an event in the gallery, you will now return to the gallery screen instead of the main menu. - More short repetitive events will now show on the map at the same time. It will help you raise the stats of the girls quicker and easier. The system part (v8.1): - Rewrote save system To enhance the stability of the save system, we’ve rewritten it completely in v8.1. You might find that the thumbnails of your old saves are no longer visible, but don’t worry, you should still be able to load your old saves. - Significantly Improved the loading speed on mid-to-low-end Android devices. It used to take my old phone over 20s to get to the main menu after opening the game, and now it only takes 8. The story part: - New harem scenes for “Heather & Cassy”, “Heather & Sorring”, “Osonia & Sorring” - New personal scenes for Alnilam, Osonia, Sorring, and Molly - Sorring will become your girlfriend - 900+ new images & animated scenes. - Reworked 50+ old images with poor performance. v0.8.0.1 The System part: - The Autoplay mode The autoplay mode is undoubtedly one of the crucial features in a visual novel, but we’ve overlooked it for a long time because honestly, we’ve never used it when we played other visual novels. After being informed by some patrons about their needs, we realized our oversight and immediately started working on it. Thank god we finished the job within this update cycle. So now we have an Autoplay mode available in v8. You can freely adjust its speed and it won’t turn off itself when you pass the dialogue actively. We even made a timer to remind you when the text will switch to the next line. There are two different timer styles for you to choose from. - The free script editing tool (test version) As you know, I’m not really a good writer. The game’s text is riddled with many grammar errors and typos, both the English and the Chinese version. Many lovely people have been so kind to point out issues in the text with numerous screenshots after every update, and I really appreciate that. I’m sorry for not being able to provide you with a better reading experience, and I feel that we need to at least create a more convenient way for people who care to give feedback on text issues and even manually correct the issues that are unbearable to them. I will upload the scripts tomorrow, after I wake up and finish the tutorial document. Right now I just need to sleep so bad, haven’t closed my eyes for 30 hours. * We eventually decided not to include the scripts in the PC version of the game. Because doing so will significantly slow down the unzip speed. - Greatly improved the hints in the Story Progress screen The previous hints were not clear enough, sometimes they basically forced you to guess if a requirement of a plot was achieved or not, which must be annoying. We are very sorry about the trouble it has caused. But it will no longer be a problem in v8, we’ve redesigned the screen and reworked the whole system. Now the hints should be much clearer. - Implemented a HUGE number of animation effects and sound effects. It’s hard to describe here, you will know what I’m talking about as soon as you enter the game. I’m not sure if all the new animation effects will work perfectly on low-end phones, please let me know if you experience any frame-dropping issues during animations. - Improved the game’s loading speed. For some reason this improvement didn’t go as significant as we thought. Right now the speed of loading the main menu on mid-to-low-end phones should be 10-20% faster, and 30-50% faster on high-end phones in theory. The speed of loading the gallery will be a lot faster on all devices, in theory. - Small stuff: - You can now adjust the textbox transparency and the text speed - Implemented ‘slapping’ sound effect - New icon for the Support Missions - Improved the look of the event bubbles The Story part: - New girl: Fuying Fuying is a mysterious time mage who had her first appearance in VIRTUES. She was also literally the first girl you saw in PHOENIXES. Like most girls in the game, Fuying also comes with a pretty complex backstory, no, in fact she has THE MOST complex backstory. Creating her was a challenge, an attempt to step out of our comfort zone. I’m not sure if everyone will like this girl and her plots in this update, but I promise she’s going to have a very very romantic storyline. - New interrogation target: Alnilam The story of v8 continues to focus on Alnilam. This evil queen didn’t seem to change much after your last night with her on her island. Every crime she committed was still built upon extreme selfishness without concerning anything or any others. But this time, her goal was not to torture you, but to be tortured by you… … - New club level & New functional room in the club You can now raise club level to 4 and unlock the massage room. Our new girl Fuying will be the masseur. - Alnilam, Heather, Cassy, and Fuying will have new personal plots. v0.7.0.0 The Story: In our development plan, we divided the game’s development into various stages, and the focus of our updates is different with each stage. In the first stage, our focus was on building the world and setting up the relationships between MC and girls. During this time, as the story was just unfolding, we couldn’t provide too much lewd content in each update. And now, with the arrival of v7, the game has entered the next stage. In this second stage, as MC develops romantic relationships with more and more girls, you can expect more lewd content in each update, and there will also be more new girls introduced into the game. - Alnilam In this update, you’ll get a more comprehensive understanding of this most controversial girl in the game. You’ll know about her tough past, the reasons behind her turning into a villain, and the sadness beneath her bitchy personality. I don’t mean to whitewash her or anything. She is a bad woman that does bad things, nothing can excuse her wrongdoing. The way MC interacts with her will be different from with any other girl. It will be more about conquering and taming her than about deepening their love for each other. - Juliana Juliana’s plots will continue with a focus on her growth. You’ll be the witness and guide as she gradually becomes stronger. In the previous updates, Juliana was probably the most marginalized main girl because this girl seemed to be a little bit too normal and didn’t have many labels on her. But as the story enters a new stage, in this update you will get to know some information about her unknown background which might be exciting. - Kemuri & Osonia& Sorring& Yamir There will also be a battle between the order camp and the wild puppy girl. You’ll participate as part of this fight and get to see your girls showing more of their fighting skills. New Features: - New mission type: Mission Support In the next few updates, we will be adding more ways to increase girls’ love points and bring a more engaging, less grindy, and less repetitive gaming experience for you. A new mission type will be the first step. You can now unlock Mission Support in the club upgrades screen after your club reaches level 3. Completing one Mission Support will increase the certain girl’s love point and the club’s fame at the same time. - New interrogation option: Yamir In v7, you will finally be able to arrest the puppy girl that messed up the underground order of the slums. Now it’s time to start the interrogation! Each time of interrogation will raise her submissiveness point. However, she will inevitably escape after 5 times of interrogation, just like every other supervillain. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to hunt her down again in the near future. - New patron privilege: Unlock all the gallery scenes I receive requests from patrons who want to get a “save that unlocks all the gallery scenes” every now and then, so I decided to make it a $5 patron privilege in the game. Just type the code in the gallery and everything will be unlocked for you. - New bedroom: Alnilam’s room A harem master won’t just sleep in the same room every night. In v7, sometimes you will spend the night in Alnilam’s room (though you might not want to.) There will be more girls’ bedrooms available in the future. Optimizations: - Completely fixed the crash issue on low-to-mid-end Android devices We have consistently received reports of crash issues on mid-to-low-end Android devices since the first version of the game. Throughout this year, we have made a lot of efforts to optimize the Android version with each update. However, the results have been consistently disappointing. I want to sincerely apologize to everyone who has experienced this issue. It was solely due to our insufficient understanding of the Godot engine, and we take full responsibility for it. However, in v7, it will no longer be a problem anymore. There will be absolutely NO crashes when loading animated scenes. The FPS during animated scenes may drop a bit if your CPU is way too entry-level though, but absolutely no crash anymore. If you think your CPU should be fine, yet still having the FPS problem, please let me know! - improved the loading time for the Android version after launching we noticed that many Android users (even with mid-to-high-end devices) might have had to endure a black screen for over 20 seconds after starting the game before accessing the main menu. In v7, the waiting time has been reduced greatly. It might still be quite a while on low-end devices, but there won’t be a black screen anymore (so at least you will know the game is not dead.) v0.6.0.0 PHOENIXES v6 update report Thanks for your patience. Now PHOENIXES v6 is finally ready to meet you all! Turned out that the new update strategy that we tried this time (one functional update v5.5 in the middle of the update cycle, and one story update v6 in the end) didn’t really save us any time. We still spent a solid 2-month plus 5 days of the grace period to develop the game from v5 to v6. But the new update strategy did improve our efficiency and helped us manage our time better. The new content of v5.5 + v6 is just way bigger than any update before. So I guess we’ll continue using this strategy in the future. Now let’s take a look at what we have made for you in the last two months: V5.5 part: Check the v5.5 update report if you haven’t to see the details of what we did in that functional update. Here is a brief list: - Remade the city map - Reworked 300+ old images & animated scenes - Improved the in-game patron reward - General UI improvements for Android version - Greatly reduced the size of the Android version - Enhanced the graphic quality of the Mac version V6 functional part: - Reduced the size of the dialogue box of the Android version. - Reworked the rollback button and the skip button of the Android version. Error fix: - Now when entering the club, you will be correctly directed to the club’s main interface instead of the club upgrades screen. - Now after loading a save that is in the middle of an event, you won’t have to re-experience the entire event again the next day. - Auto events won’t trigger themselves anymore if you have already consumed any action points in that time period. Story part: - 700+ new images & animated scenes - New subplot: Three sleeping beauties - New personal scenes for Heather, Molly, Cassy, Sorring, Alnilam - Sorring is having a curse attack again~ v0.5 Sorry for the delay of more than 10 hours in releasing this update. The debugging process went harder than we expected. 10 hours ago those bugs nearly drove us to the brink of collapse. The android version crashed constantly and even rolling back to the code of the v4 update couldn’t solve the problem. It blew our minds and I almost began to write an announcement of delay. But luckily we eventually managed to resolve that issue and every issue lay before us. Now we are ready to release the v5 update. But seriously, the setback we encountered this time made me realize we still aren’t proficient enough with Godot engine, and it really feels bad when the update date is near and you thought you can make it on time, but suddenly a serious bug came out from nowhere and messed up the entire plan. I was thinking maybe in the next update cycle we should try a new update schedule, maybe we shouldn’t update both the story and the system at the same time anymore. So here is my plan: in the next update cycle (from today to June 17th), we will first make a v5.5 update in the middle of the cycle which will be mainly about systemic improvements, so we can move most of the debugging work to this point. And then, we will make v6 update at the end of the cycle which will be mainly about the story. I don’t know if this new plan will make our work any easier or more functional, but I guess it’s worth a try. Oh, sorry for rambling on about things unrelated to v5 update, now let’s take a look what we have for you this time: v5 has so far the best quality of rendering and the most intriguing plots. I think my writing improved too, eh… … at least that’s what I felt. Heather Heather will play the most important part of this update. We’ve given her story a significant amount of focus in several updates, and now you will finally build a loveship with her! It’s time to get to know more about the lewd side of the greatest hero in town! Kemuri The mysterious swordswoman Kemuri will be officially introduced in this update. I’ve made some adjustments to this girl’s dress style and personality traits. I hope you will like her~ You Uh… I’ll just copy&paste what I wrote in the mid-update report. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but there is actually an increasingly big problem in the story of PHOENIXES so far-- MC is a little bit too strengthless compared with the girls. This definitely needs to change before he gets into a more and more awkward situation, and the change will start in v5. In v5, you will experience his struggles, witness his efforts, and feel the joy of being able to use a new power together with him. We’ve made a plan for his rise for a long time, and now it’s finally time to work on it after 3 updates of foreshadowing. The subplot system Yep, similar to the ‘subplot replay’ in VIRTUES, now you will be able to replay some branched scenes in PHOENIXES too. Other systemic things Uhh… … I really don’t know how to make a summary of the countless minor works we did in v5. Maybe you will feel the difference in game or maybe you won’t. In the future, this place will become a main ‘battlefield’ for you and the supervillainesses you catch~ - The interrogation practice with your girls The sad thing is, you are still not capable of hunting any supervillainess down in v4. But don’t worry, the interrogation room won’t be deserted because Heather and Sorring are willing to do the interrogation practice with you! How will they respond to your interrogation techniques? Other improvements: - The club now has a better interface - Removed girls from your 'Plans' who don't really have a plot yet - Forbade people from choosing an overlarge screen resolution - Fix the bug that displays the wrong picture when in front of a branch selection - Optimization for the Android version I think there will be no crashes on old Android devices anymore, but, well, maybe I am wrong, please let me know if you encounter crashes during an animated scene again. The story: If I have to sum up the new plots with one word, it will be ‘boobs’.
