Shards of the Past is an adult Ren'Py visual novel by Spirit Of Night, presented with animated 3DCG visuals. You play a male protagonist shaped by a foster-care childhood and the abuse and hardships he endured. He survived through a close bond with four friends, Chloe, Louise, Angela, and Lily, though the group later drifted apart. As an adult seeking independence, he plans a future and invites Chloe into his new apartment, seeing her as the only friend who also lacked an adoptive family. The story follows their shared start, romance, and school setting, while past shadows and new social circles question whether this home can be safe.
The current build is v0.3, released on September 6, 2026, and development is ongoing. It is available for Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android, and the game is uncensored. English and Spanish are supported. The latest changelog says v0.3 adds a larger number of images and two animations.

Growing up in foster care left deep scars on the protagonist, who managed to survive the abuse and daily hardships thanks to the unbreakable bond he formed with his four best friends: Chloe, Louise, Angela, and Lily. Over time, the group drifted apart. Now, having reached adulthood and strived for independence, the protagonist is determined to build a future and welcome Chloe into his new apartment: the only friend who, like him, was left alone without a family to adopt her. As they begin this new chapter together under the same roof, doubts plague him: Will this apartment be the safe haven they so desperately longed for, or will the shadows of the past and new social circles test their relationship?
