You are Victor van der Velde, the son of a South African gold mine owner and his Russian emigre wife who moved to Boston in his childhood, after riots forced the family out of your home nation. Life has been cruel to you, so you've chosen to be cruel back. But now, in your middle age, when you're a married father of two beautiful children, what's left to do but restore the balance that you disrupted? And what better way to restore than to breed?
