About The Nature of Magic
The Nature of Magic is an adult fantasy dating sim built in Ren'Py by Slate Interactive, presented with animated 3DCG visuals. Its world is Eorþe, where the Affinity that lets humans, elves, and orrans use magic is fading. Only some children of the six Great Families are born with it, and a series of suspicious deaths has left just two known male Affinity holders among those families: Cymhen Grym and Cyril Cenric. You play as a third, hidden man with the Affinity, approached by an old mentor and offered shelter with the Gryms in return for help uncovering why magic is weakening.
The current release is Part 4, dated June 4, 2026, and development appears ongoing rather than finished. It is available in English for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and is uncensored. The latest changelog entry, dated November 25, 2025, covers a fix for the Part Three Android release: updated links and corrected images that appeared out of position in a few scenes on phones. Part 3 itself includes about 36,000 words, roughly 1,450 renders, and 27 videos, with six base animations and alternate expressions or views.

Magic is dying. With every passing generation, fewer and fewer are born with the Affinity. Where once every human, elf, and orran could wield magic, now only half of those born to Eorþe's six Great Families develop the ability. Outside the Families the percentage drops significantly. And worse, a spate of suspicious deaths have left only two men with the Affinity alive, both among the Families: Cymhen Grym and Cyril Cenric. Unknown to all but Cymhen, however, a third lives in secret, shunning the intrigue and exploitation of the Families. You. Spoiler The Families are never denied for long, and a threat soon forces Cymhen's hand. Your old mentor seeks you out and offers you a place with the Gryms. In exchange for their protection, he asks that you aid him in his latest endeavor: to determine the cause of the dwindling number of those born with the Affinity. Will you mend the wounds rent by your sudden disappearance five years ago? Will you stay true to yourself under the weight of the Great Families? Will you discover The Nature of Magic?
