I'm really enjoying this one. The MC is a quirky and mysteriously capable student who alienates authority figures while charming the women around him with quirky but charming actions. He is clearly trustworthy and reliable, always working to support and defend the people he cares about, and he has the respect of those around him who are strong in their own right, while being modest about his own attainment. I really liked the pacing of the story and the deftness of the storyteller's revelations of the conflicts within the MC, some of the demons that afflict him and how his immense intrinsic but uncontrollable power runs up against his will to protect the ones he cares about, bringing him to risk incarceration or death when that is the only alternative that makes him strong enough to keep them safe.
