About Anomia

Anomia is an adult visual novel by Keysheero, made in Ren'Py with CG visuals. You play a little-known student chosen by a group vote to go through a portal. From there he reaches a castle full of strangers, crosses the Waste and returns to the Academy changed, facing people who once ignored him. The game mixes story choices, turn-based combat, and building a house under the Academy's bridges, set in a fantasy school environment.

The current build, v0.2.9.0 Act II, released October 14, 2026, is still in development. It runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac, supports English and Russian, and is uncensored. The latest update rebuilt Act II as one nine-chapter story, updated earlier acts and chapters, and changed version numbers to status, act, chapter, and revision so they track the story rather than releases. Cassius creates a house beneath the Academy's bridges for those the Academy wrote off. The separate Renegade Act II and path-selection screen were removed to keep one story focused.

Developer's description

Twenty-eight students. One portal. It only takes one of them. The group votes, and the vote lands on the guy whose name almost nobody in the room remembers. That's the first ten minutes — everything after is what a man does once he has been written off: he falls into a castle of strangers, crosses the Waste, and walks back into the Academy among the people who counted him out, changed enough that none of them know him. Choices that stay with you. Combat you can read and break. A house under the Academy's bridges to build and keep alive. An adult story that does not look away.

Changelog

v0.2.9.0 — Act II rebuilt as one story (2026-10-14) The biggest update so far: Act II was rebuilt as one story, and every act and chapter before it was updated. Version numbers - Versions now read STATUS.ACT.CHAPTER.REVISION. The first number is 0 while the story is still in development; the rest are the latest act, the latest chapter and the revision. 0.2.9.0 means Act II, chapter 9. The number went down from 0.4.0 on purpose: it now counts story, not releases. Story - Act II ("Fire in the Windows") is now one story of nine chapters. Cassius builds a house under the Academy's bridges for the people it wrote off. - The Renegade version of Act II and the path-selection screen are gone. I cut them to give the game one story told properly instead of two told thinly. - The Prologue, Act I and every chapter were updated. - The seventh-gate choice is now a scene of its own: three answers, ten seconds, and silence counts as an answer. The timer can be switched off in the settings. - Chapter 10, the end of Act II, is not in this release. The Lower House - You run a house: a communal fund, a month of projects and four buildings to upgrade — infirmary, workshop, training yard, cargo hoist. - Upgrades change the game: the yard strengthens the whole party, and finished workshop and infirmary upgrades open evenings with Lin and Livia. Adult content - Three intimate evenings in Act II: Iris, Lin and Livia (56 frames in all). Lin's needs the upgraded workshop, Livia's needs the upgraded infirmary, and Iris's depends on your choices. Livia's evening is about closeness, not sex. - The night scenes of the removed Renegade Act II (Livia, Vera, Severa) are no longer in the story. Some of the cut material and extra scenes are in a bonus collection unlocked by a promo code from the Patreon post. - Gallery: after finishing the available story you can choose "Unlock story gallery" to open every story frame in this release. Combat and progression - Allies fight with moves of their own (21 new ones), and attacks from different allies chain together. Shield and dodge by choice; break a stance and the enemy is open; wounds slow whoever carries them. - 97 talents in four areas: Foundation, Mastery, Rapier and Wings. Mastery lets you mix Riposte, Onslaught and Flow in one build. Respec is free outside combat, and the in-game help has three sample builds for levels 15 and 20. - The separate Hero / Renegade / Wanderer talent trees are now one shared Mastery tree. Saves and limits - Saves from earlier versions, including 0.4.0, are not guaranteed to continue, and saves from the removed Renegade Act II cannot. Please start a new game; keep a backup of your old saves and install the update in a fresh folder. - Gallery access, favourites and settings are stored outside the game folder and are kept. - Not tested on native macOS or Linux, on Android / JoiPlay or on low-end hardware, and not every branch has been played through end to end. v0.4.0 — Act II: The Academy (2026-09-23) Act II is in, and on its own it is longer than the Prologue and Act I put together: 5,191 lines of script against 3,822. Story - Twelve chapters inside the Academy. You arrive as a new student nobody has heard of, into the same year as the classmates who voted you through the seventh gate. - 38 new recorded decisions, 41 points where the game stops and asks you, and five endings — one of them ends the run on the spot. - An investigation runs against you the whole act. You examine a body yourself: five points on the scene, an evidence journal that fills with what you actually found, and two arguments you can hand the investigator or keep. He also keeps a hidden count of everything careless you say, and tells you when it goes up. - A path screen before Act II. Renegade is the path this act is written for; Hero and Wanderer are locked. Adult content - Three new night scenes, each behind a choice and each missable: Livia (43 frames), Vera (40 frames), Severa (38 frames). - The Prologue's empty lecture hall scene is now 30 frames instead of 8. - Gallery: 313 images, 165 of them new in this version, sorted by act and chapter. Combat and progression - Three battles: Bruno in the Ring in front of the whole year, Severa in the archive vault with the papers burning, and a finale whose opponent depends on the goal you take — hunt the man responsible, or get twelve people out from under the tower. You do not get both. - Nine Renegade talents open in Act II on top of the Rapier and Wings disciplines, and every finished chapter pays experience. Art and sound - 21 full-screen story CGs for Act II, played with no dialogue box. - 49 new backgrounds at 2560x1440 and 26 new character sprites with full expression sets: the Academy cast, plus your own group re-dressed in uniform. - 35 new tracks by Scott Buckley (CC BY 4.0) — character themes, the inquiry, the fights. Saves - Saves from 0.3.0 do not carry over: the Prologue and Act I were revised again and the script no longer lines up with them. Please start a new game. - Gallery unlocks, favourites, difficulty and settings are stored separately and are kept. v0.3.0 — the big one (2026-09-11) Every chapter of the Prologue and Act I was rewritten line by line, the game got a combat system it did not have before, a full score, and a rebuilt interface at 2560x1440. Same twelve chapters — a different game around them. Writing — all twelve chapters rewritten - The vote is no longer something you are told about: twenty-eight people do the arithmetic out loud and the cast speaks for itself instead of being narrated at. - The protagonist's biography and the chronology of Day X finally agree with each other, and the gates are read by the marks cut into their thresholds. - Twelve key moments play as a full frame with no dialogue box. Three of the twelve belong to a single path, so one playthrough does not see all of them. Combat — new system, built from scratch - Turn-based combat as a real module: entropy as the resource you live on, health as the state of the body, windups you can read and interrupt, stances you can break, and wounds that stay with you for the rest of the fight. - Five story battles across Act I — the field lesson, the Hollows, Ruta, Gaius and Constant. Each one ends on its own conditions, not on a generic "enemy at zero"; a battle you skip pays no reward. - 37 talents across four trees: Foundation, plus Hero, Renegade and Wanderer. Level cap 20, four active skill slots, and the top tier of a path tree is one crown out of three — you pick one and lose the others. - 25 passives earned from events, decisions and your class, each one a line the protagonist actually carries out of the scene it came from. - Four difficulties — Story, Calm, Normal, Harsh — switchable at any time. Story exists so the fights never stand between you and the writing. Choices and paths - Eight decisions are recorded across the game; four of them carry the weight that settles the protagonist onto one of three paths. - Three decisions still run on an eight-second bar with no countdown digits. Silence remains a valid answer with an outcome of its own. - Nothing is rolled behind your back. An option that is shown does what it says. Art - 76 CG in the gallery, up from 64, uncensored. - All 38 backgrounds re-shot natively at 2560x1440 — obelisks, the lecture hall, the rooftop, the wasteland and the castle locations. New backgrounds and CG are authored at 2K from here on rather than upscaled. - The game's virtual resolution is now 2560x1440. Interface - The main menu now stands on the obelisk, and the whole UI was rebuilt with it. - New screens: talents, passives, and a skills screen built as a showcase rather than a spreadsheet. - Gallery: sorted by act and chapter, with filters and favourites that survive a restart. Gamepad navigation throughout. - Reading interface reworked — history, saves and screens reachable mid-scene without losing your place. Saves - Saves from 0.2.0 do not carry over — every chapter was rewritten and the script no longer lines up with them. Please start a new game. - Gallery unlocks, favourites, difficulty and settings are stored separately and are kept. v0.2.0 — Initial release (2026-09-02) - Prologue and Act I: twelve chapters, approximately 4,100 lines, 64 CG. - Seven decisions settling the protagonist onto one of three paths, three of them on an eight-second timer. - Full English and Russian text. Windows and Linux.

While there are some lacking elements like the errors in the h-scenes and not enough time spent on the female characters thoughts and motivations in act 2, there are many good elements. The worldbuilding is interesting, it's easy to get…

Prologue takes too long and is really bleak, repetitive at times. Ai text shows itself as often there are long paragraphs for simple stuff. Images need more polish, even a wrong eye is left for main figures (nell). But otherwise…
