HELLGATE is a massive, ground-up total conversion project that transforms
Night of Revenge
from a linear action-platformer into a deep, unforgiving, and highly dynamic 2D side-scrolling dark RPG.
The original game is included in the download.
HellGate is currently under active development.
Spoiler
The original world deserved far more than just surface-level mechanical tweaks. Built to serve as an enduring architectural foundation, HELLGATE reshapes familiar locations into a brutal, unpredictable sandbox where your tactical decisions, your reputation, and your psychological sanity dictate whether you survive or completely break.
Instead of just clearing linear maps and mechanically moving from one hostile zone to the next, you step into a living, interactive ecosystem. Here, six warring factions clash in real-time, a dynamic economy demands high-stakes risks, and a deeply integrated, mind-shattering insanity system dynamically distorts your entire gameplay experience. HELLGATE expands the core game, forging it into a true dark fantasy role-playing platform—perfect for players seeking a harsher challenge, a deeper atmospheric lore, and total agency over their journey.
Change-Log 1.2.5 (Update)
• DeepForest Mod
Added the latest version of DeepForest Mod.
• Splash Options
New Options menu on the HellGate splash: Gore Content, Easy/Medium/Hard difficulty presets, Language, Done/Exit.
Difficulty copies both NoREroMod.cfg and NoREroMod_HellGate.cfg from BepInEx/config/{EASY|MEDIUM|HARD}/ (restart required).
Language can be changed later from Options (saves and quits; relaunch to apply).
Language/Gore preferences are preserved when switching difficulty.
• Boot Tips & Tutorial Guide
Localized loading tips during startup hydrate, then an illustrated mute video guide (Back/Pause/Forward, Done → splash) in all 10 HellGate languages.
• DeadArmor (SlaveBigAxe / OtherSlavebigAxe)
Breaking girl armor (NikuArmor) plays a PNG death clip + sound.
While armored, SlaveBigAxe grab-via-attack becomes a short hold + knockdown throw instead of an H-snap; after the armor breaks, normal grab/H return.
Gated by splash Gore Content (throw remains separately configurable).
• MeatArmor / SlaveBigAxe H
Localized H-scene dialogue for SlaveBigAxe.
After the fade/game-over path, Aradia can swap into the armored MeatArmor walk patrol (camera follow, proper escape back to combat/H).
• HellTraps
New lethal lightning button trap (lightningTrap_button): warning → strike VFX → lethal hit + CustomDeath clip if you stay on the button.
Same Gore gate as other lethal traps.
• Gore Content
Splash toggle (General.EnableGoreContent) turns DeadArmor death clips and CustomDeath lethal traps on/off.
• Difficulty Presets
Easy is much more forgiving (lower enemy/elite HP, generous QTE/struggle SP).
Medium/Hard remain the standard/hard HellGate pressure.
HP potion escape (allowPotionEasyEscape) enabled on all presets.
Shelter Attack trigger chance default set to 5%.
• DeepForest Compatibility
Fixed Take Vengeance / respawn falling into the void after saving at DeepForest altars (Woods House and related maps no longer reuse the Underground Church altar id).
• MindBroken Bad End
Minimizing / Alt+Tab during the 100% countdown no longer dumps the whole pause into one frame (no instant Bad End on restore).
• Factions / Spawn
Bandits ↔ mafia friendly; inquisition ≡ church alias; rescued hostages inherit |faction=.
Spawn lines X,Y,Key default count to 1; spawn/cache hardenings (trap_mokubaenemy from Prison, typo alias InchchurchSlave → InchurchSlave).
• Combat / H Fixes
Struggle/QTE lockouts respect vanilla easy-escape and struggle level 10 (no forced 15s unlock).
Faction AI no longer void-punches during WallHip/trap H.
blackoozetypeb can re-arm after struggle escape.
Credits list refreshed.
Change-Log 1.2.4 Hotfix
Fixed a bug where using Take Vengeance after dying in the underground church could drop you into the void if you had saved at the local altar.
Fixed a bug with goblins where Aradia’s body could disappear until the grab animation started.
Change-Log 1.2.4 (Update)
• Pregnancy & Offspring: Added separate HellGate pregnancy logic via Pregnancy.Enable (separate from vanilla NoREroMod pregnancy). Womb meter fills during H/creampies; full meter triggers conception, then three trimesters with rising debuffs. After birth, the slime becomes a child (archetype from the father’s faction). Children live in the ParishChurch hideout and grant permanent bonuses while there (they do not fight yet). Growth stages (0→3) advance after successful Shelter Attack defense. Taking Vengeance or dying clears active pregnancy and semen, but hideout children remain. Optional pregnancy/womb reset at the Altar (cfg).
• Shelter Attack: Having living children in the hideout triggers a raid chance when leaving ParishChurch (default chance 20%). A countdown timer forces a return to fight enemy waves; winning grants +1 growth stage, while losing means children may be taken. Raid UI and texts are fully localized into all 10 HellGate languages.
• Combat / Grab Adjustments: Grab-via-attack can no longer trigger during dash, parry, or post-hit i-frames. Blocking now grants full grab immunity by default via GrabBlockImmunity (old "through-block grab" mechanic can still be enabled in the config). If base grab chances are set to 0, MindBroken/HP/Pleasure scaling bonuses will no longer artificially force a grab.
• H-Scene Camera: Toned down the initial Start Zoom intensity; Spacebar zoom cycle is now standardized to 1.5 → 3 → 5. Fatality camera skip now applies strictly to the RequiemKnight family (void camera). Butcher, BossScapegoat, and other Fatality grabs retain their unique Start Zoom and panning effects.
• Struggle: Fixed an issue where players could prematurely escape grab animations (like WallHip) at ~50% SP; the struggle bar must now be fully filled.
• Kinoko: Fixed H-scene softlocks when transitioning from START6 → ERO; climax (FIN) now correctly fills the womb meter.
• TouzokuAxe: Fixed womb fill trigger to occur exactly on climax rather than at the start of the FIN animation.
• MummyMan: Anal H-scenes no longer incorrectly fill the womb meter. Fixed handoff logic on JIGO; the next scene now starts mid-chain, and previous elements remain hidden until standing up.
• Localization Fix: Replaced three accidental Chinese dialogue files for Aradia in the Korean (KR) localization with proper Korean text.
Change-Log 1.2.3
QTE: Button position X/Y now read from config.
Factions: Magic provocation fixed.
Tighter activation radius.
Combat commit keeps inter-faction fights going after you leave.
Crawling enemy roster moved to demons.
Retaliation added when hit by another faction.
Spawn: Wolf "left" spawn suffix no longer breaks AI facing.
ScapegoatEntrance → InundergroundChurch enemies now spawn without needing an F11 reload.
HellGate witchslaveslime rescues now award 30–60 gold instead of a ring.
Combat recovery: Knockdown stand-up jump restored.
Pregnancy/birth scenes no longer interrupt gameplay or show double sprites.
HUD: Rage, MindBroken, Factions, and Gold now hide during the NPC diary reader (not just the inventory menu).
H-scenes: Dialogue bubbles clear immediately on escape.
EventCore: Added Broker toll + bandit sex_paid encounters (consent grab, ambush branches, session hostility).
10-language broker text fixes.
Splash language selection now reloads EventCore modals.
Defaults: Threat sounds turned off for new installs.
Decor catalog renamed to DECOR_CATALOG.txt.
Change-Log 1.2.2 (Hotfix Update)
Cutscenes:
Fixed phantom attacks/dashes when clicking text to skip dialogues (VanillaStoryEventInputGuard blocks attack, magic, step, and dash input during story events).
BossTouzokuCustom:
Fixed a softlock during H-scenes where struggle and QTE wouldn't trigger due to player control flags being locked.
Map & Respawn:
Fixed infinite falling through the map after selecting "Vengeance" in the Nightless City bar (Ragdoom scene mismatch forced spawn at a floorless altar position).
White Cathedral Rooftop:
Fixed mid-air respawn bug where the character would float above the ground after dying on the roof.
H-Scenes (Handoff):
Fixed a bug where the character would visually stand up early instead of staying down during group handoffs (affects Touzoku, Goblins, Inquisition, Vagrant, Dorei, Mutude, CrowInquisition, Kakasi, Bigoni, Mafia).
Kakasi Pass Logic:
Fully fixed the bug chain after Kakasi handoffs, including mesh invisibility, immediate instant re-grabs, and broken AI walk behaviors.
ScapegoatEntrance:
Vanilla TALK-dialogue triggers and Rage TimeSlowMo (T key) now function properly and are no longer overwritten/reset every frame while the field boss is alive.
Combat Distance:
Fixed enemies landing hits from an extreme distance (9+ units) due to oversized boss weapon colliders; added a specific cap for Wolf lunge attacks.
Gold Drops:
Fixed the gold pile not spawning immediately upon death; rebalanced gold nodes on FirstMap to 1–3 gold per point.
HUD Auto-Hide:
Modded widgets (Rage, MindBroken, Factions) now properly hide when opening the vanilla fullscreen inventory or status menu.
Minor UI & Optimization:
Fixed French text clipping ("éservé" instead of "réservé") on the splash screen, and added a 5-second throttle to prevent log spam when the decor catalog file is missing.
2026-06-10:
Change-Log 1.2.1 (Hotfix)
Struggle:
allowPotionEasyEscape — HP potion escape in QTE works again (Q / item; requires a restart after editing the cfg).
QTE HUD:
ButtonPositionX / ButtonPositionY — adjusts the position of the button row from NoREroMod_HellGate.cfg (ButtonSpacing now controls only the distance between keys).
Field of View:
Disabled by default — enemies are always visible; configured in HellGate.cfg, not in NoREroMod.cfg.
Factions:
Magic provocation works when PlayerProvocationFromMagic = true (applies to projectiles after casting).
Manifesto:
Updated (v1.2.1, 10 languages).
Fixes:
Editing BepInEx/config/NoREroMod_HellGate.cfg requires a full game restart.

Absolute Peak Mod It looks like people rating are missing the key defining feature of this mod, and that is its Customization If the base settings are too hard, the creator has made it where you can change the values with simple NotePad Edits! Granted, there are A LOT of settings, but the payoff is amazing. No other H-game I've played comes close to this. This mod gives better Battle fuck , easy to understand struggle mechanics , altered enemy AI (slight), a minor Raid/Defend event , and the creator is actively (as of rating) taking in feedback to make it even better. Also, this comes in multiple languages!! 100% recommend. Yes there is a bit of a learning curve with altering the settings, unless you can actually read .

This is, somehow, complete ass. The mod includes new "additions" which subtract from the initial gameplay of Night of Revenge, all to... What? Annoy the player? The modified struggle system is awkward and incoherent. The new "Encounters" (poorly made, fan events) just put you in situations where you are forced to struggle because you don't have a certain amount of money, or you negotiate with sex- Which just feels so forced and frustrating if you haven't grinded enough. Would I rather play this, or the original? The original all the way. If you want meaningless, purely masochistic frustration in relation to the game mechanics- Then this trash, poorly coded fan version is your go to. It doens't even fix any of the problems with Night of Revenge either.

I only played the original game after playing this mod because I saw the lower score, but when I realized there was no struggle mechanic, at least from what I saw, I immediately switched back to Hellgate. I appreciate that I don't need to get a game over to see all the sex animations, and the animations are super high quality. I hope this mod gets better reviews in the future, because I personally wish to play this version over the original. Edit: I also want to comment that the combat difficulty is certainly intense, in the beginning especially, but after I learned how the struggle mechanic works it became much easier. I'm someone who enjoys challenging combat in games, so it's nice to see an adult game that can actually push me back pretty effectively while keeping it sexy and weird.

Overtuned enemies where the dev says 'git gud' instead of actually balancing the game. Stick with the original unless you're into sadistic gameplay (and I mean the poor controls plus the terrible new mechanics, not the game itself).

Too long, didn't read - Feature-creep Hell. After playing through the vanilla game a few times on max difficulty, I wanted more. I wondered if anyone had expanded pregnancy support to all the enemy types, instead of only the blobs. But, the creator of this mod also did way too much unneeded work, and added a clunky escape system, way too many enemy spawns, and some kind of mind-break system that makes you fall down constantly while kicking you back to the clunky escape system. If you wanted the vanilla game, but with extended pregnancy support like I did, pass on this mod. I read the other reviews about all the issues with difficulty and enemy spamming, but decided to give it a try anyway. That was a mistake. 1/5 -_-

Perfect Game with a very good expansion but PLEASE do NOT leave a bad review if the Game is hard because you have been warned already. Apart from that, amazing Game It has a lot more of content and new mechanics such as the pregnancy, the struggle, or the hideout raiding. Also has new scenes and interactions with eventcores with the bandits. 10/10 game

I've played several runs of this game so I came here to experience something new or at least more difficult so here my thoughts of the mod Pros: - By far the best thing it has is that you can modify a lot of things so if you don't like something you can(probably) just change it in the code with the guide it has - The mod reuse some mini bosses and put randomly more of the trapped girls and advanced enemies in other parts of the game so if you wanna see them you can just go to the altar and search for them, they'll appear again, DLis did a really good job with them I dont understand why he didn't use them more - Dirty talk in sex escenes, the dialogues are good fits the game really well Neutral: - Gore, pregnancy and texts of the protitution parts, idk I'm not really into them so I just unabled/skipped them -Berserker mode, less damage received you're stronger, it exists - Factions, idk if it was necessary, you're in a game with enemies where the goal is fighting and they give you an option to not fight so you can just... walk? it's not bad but I'm pretty neutral to it although I like factions fight each other Cons: -QTE system, really annoying, tbh it's not that difficult but in the original NOR you just click ad then you're fighting again, but here you have to change between fighting and struggling out which makes the gameplay more rough and you do it A LOT so yeah pls no -Enemy spawn rate, the difficulty of the mod is like, spawning a lot of enemies and increasing their health, at the start is not really bad but if you play more than the first 2 zones it's just annoying and you just start to dash and ignore them -All the artistic and graphic part, the logos of factions are just floating letters and look weird compared to the rest of what you're seeing same for coins, the icons of aradia in prostitution dialogues look so fucking awful and the AI doesnt match the style of the game at all, pls get an artist General opinion: It's okay for a moment but it fastly becomes boring, the main change you'll see is more enemies and that in general the mod takes you out of the experience with the QTE system and the graphic part

As someone that loves NoR, I found this mod more frustrating than enjoyable. It goes above any beyond to make the core experience you'd expect from NoR as miserable as possible. Whether endless enemies are spawning around you, grabbing you out of nowhere, whether the escape mechanic drains your entire stamina (and mana) bar for a single mistake, whether you need to restart the whole game to erase bullshit, or whether the game remains perma zoomed in for no reason - you're just going to end up wishing you were playing the original game. Adds nothing but annoyance, skip and play the base game again.

Night of Revenge "HELLGATE: Descent Into Darkness" [v1.2.4] Art's alright. 2D spine animations are easier than full 3D rendering because it's less good, and that shows occasionally. Thankful for the ability to toggle off gore. Writing is so thin it may as well not be a thing. Porn and gameplay have many of the same gripes in this porn game. The overall vibe is similar to what one gets with an inexperienced or inept DM with a tabletop game that can't adapt to their players on the fly and thus have to resort to asspulls and railroading to ensure their favored script is adhered to. All the different conflicting [literal] fuck-you bars get more annoying than hot when the struggle progress resets despite showing green arrows for correct buttons, then resets because sex is happening in the sex you're trying to struggle out of, then resets because the up-down-up threepete decided to move its goalposts randomly, then you succeed in the struggle only to get instantly regrabbed by the same enemy, one of his innumerable mates, or his invisible glitched-out buddy halfway across the map. You repeat the struggle enough times to break out and sword the baddies to death only to then get a game-over-but-not-really from a random corruption countdown timer. This has potential, but at the moment the balance feels vibecoded with a prompt written by somebody using their keyboard to smack a roach on their desk. TLDR: bitch needs to farm some poise gear.

Night of Revenge was and still is a very janky 2D soulsborne with terrible controls and interfaces. It had some strengths, but any issues that the original game has can only be amplified/highlighted by an unofficial modded overhaul. Like most community mod projects, it feels like a disjointed collection of potentially neat concepts with poor execution because the game they're being forced into wasn't designed with these ideas in mind. For what it is, I feel like the modders have put considerable time into this project well aware that no matter what it's never going to be as capable as a full source code rebuild/fork using Unity's native toolset. There are some neat mechanics that some people will enjoy, but for most people the base experience is going to feel like a worse version of the original game. One that despite it's strengths, also highlights many of the flaws that both this and the original share. If you already liked NOR and have a certain degree of self-hatred, you'll probably like this. If you fall outside of that group, you probably won't. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but the description does not capture what this mod does very accurately. It reads like an AI was prompted to "explain HELLGATE like a marketer trying to sell an EA game". In my experience, most of what it does is adding more enemies everywhere, changing damage/health values, and a couple semi-functional systems that maybe have a small impact on how you play. Most of it is configurable, but of course what's the point in playing a modded overhaul just to disable most of the features? Enemy spawns are doubled if not tripled, and the combat system just feels terrible with more than one enemy at a time (this issue is also present in the original, but there are fewer enemies to compensate). The pregnancy system is kinda neat, but also takes you out of the gameplay for good chunk of time. You get passive stat boosts from having monstrous offspring, but then have to defend said offspring from raids? Mindbreak feels encumbering and superficial, it's conceptually a corruption system but the original game wasn't designed for it so it's very limited in scope and mainly adds tedium. Rage isn't particularly inventive or helpful, and doesn't really make sense with the gameplay. It feels like something ripped out of a hack-n-slasher, without any adjustments for this NOT being a hack-n-slash in the slightest. The modded portrait is extremely pixelated and blurry compared to the original portrait, which was much higher quality. Modded sounds are poorly mixed and sound like youtube clips overlain on the game's audio.

Having a blast for the last 5 hours, controls aren't that bad(adjust and using keyboard mainly) Love the dirty talks and pregnancy system (a bit annoying with the shelter but dev said it's adjustable) The mod is definitely not for a casual (me included) but it's doable and not that bad (In my opinion). The UI get stucks sometimes but with a bit of clicking and spamming space, I can manage. Overall, it's good for 'the mod' considering that NoR isn't really that mod support (or maybe it does? I don't know) and I appreciate someone put in times and efforts just to add something to it(especially pregnancy system). Good shits.

Up to this point I never expierienced a mod of any kind in any game which would make it worse than the base game. This is a first, - in the default state the game is completly unplayable by ANY means. Even the most basic functions of the game doesnt work anymore because you're just a ragdoll for enemies to push around. You need to heavily edit the configs the game gives you and even those who are not easily editable like the knockdown behavier to make it playable. At this point you did lose 99% of your audiance. Tbf it's not a bad mod but the starting values of all things are so anti customer balanced it's just a prime example of: "how to not design games". Pros are: - the game is heavily configurable to your needs( a minus point that knockback edits requiere advantagded knowledge to make it more playable) - The character is not silent anymore and the enemies also talk(can be done with the specific mod alone but is most likely the best thing about this mod) Cons are: - At the default state it's completly unplayable and 1/10 game - You just end up gangraped every second with the same animations are beeing played or slowly as a snail parrying even trashmobs which are 200392309 on the screen - Stats doesn't matter except crit chance for non bosses.(stagger, in fact crit is the only useful stat in this mod) - Slow weapons are even more useless even with the "increased swing speed" - The controls on a controller where always horrible for this game but now it's even worse if you want b for dodge now you also change the "confirm" button at the same time. wtf uses b for confirm and not to undo something (those are maingame issues but they're way more important here because you need to switch dodge and parry to buttons which are actually not retarded to reach and are in your muscle memory from other games.) Considering everything the mod has a lot of potential but at this point it's just a waste of time. The original game + mc thoughts and the enemies lines mod gives you any good thing this mod does.

A rather half-baked mod unfortunately this mod focuses more on the H component than on the gameplay itself I would like to see new locations or decors instead of old ones with a huge senseless number of additional enemies. Actually some of new features pretty good and also thanks for the open sources, I see a focus on future updates (hopefully) I would like to see something more worthwhile but unfortunately now the surface modding is very visible due to asset curves and frequent departures buut even despite all the problems of the mod no small amount of work has been done and a lot of innovations have been added but I repeat I would like to see new "rooms" a breathe life into NoR maybe for start change launcher to moddifed and replace vanila one?

4/5 I've loved this game, and seeing someone add more and even changing the mechanics a bit makes me incredibly interested to see where it goes. I had a ton of fun playing, and look forward to seeing more. At the moment, I'd like to see more enemies, possibly areas, (Which areas are a huge ask, but a man can dream.) weapons, and maybe even a mechanic where the MC develops fetishes allowing the mind-break status to lock to "enjoyment". I understand that the purpose is to avoid being mind-broken, but having the ability to slutify the character seems intriguing. Best of Luck!

I'll give it 4 out of 5 because i think that direction where this mod going are right. The whole idea of giving more personality to enemies and MC during sex scenes, are great. Other promised (but not implemented yet) additions are also interesting. That being said, i dislike how devs tried to ship their mod as finished, making it look like all new stuff are already in game. In reality, it's not a 1.2.1, but 0.2.1, basically early beta version. Anyway, i looking forward for updates, and hope this mod won't be abandoned.

looking good so far. the QTE button is quite hard but it's actually easy when you get used to it. The mod give an immersion of hard mode with level drain system but i find it too hard for casual player therefore i personally turn off the level drain on NoREroMod_HellGate.cfg I am excited and looking foward for the next update!

Similiar to the other reviews. Very janky mod, seeing mobs constantly spawn and some vanish, but you know they are still there. The break out button prompts feel useless, and only made me appreciate the base game for how well it played and ran.
redbulllx62026-06-16★★★★★
I can't say much else than the other 2 negative reviews, as I would repeat most thing verbatim so instead I'll explain why this hit or miss situation turned into a huge miss. The NoR main story and side stories all work and flow well together. You can backtrack and discover new paths, you can simply push forward and never know a blacksmith boss existed. Combat both gives you something to chew on while not making you feel overwhelmed. It's pretty much a perfect balance of gameplay, exploration and h-content. This mod, like many L4D2 custom campaign modders, think "more=better", when that's really not the case for most things. Just adding a ton of extra enemies and frustrating mechanics doesn't benefit the player, nor the experience. It's just extra chores and stats to look for, all the while you have 500 enemies up your ass, sometimes literally. It never gives you the time to let things settle in. You can't keep bombarding me with things that are already a very subjective addition and then have me with a big smile on my face asking for more. Most people playing NoR came for the porn and simplicity, not for the Dark Souls 2 gameplay. And that's not even mentioning the complete tonal mismatch with both the game's original assets and the vibe this is going for. The AI stuff didn't help much with shifting towards a positive opinion either. I don't dunk on anyone who wants to use AI to help with assets, especially early on in development as a placeholder or even just general insignificant things. But putting pretty big parts that are part of the selling point for using this over the basegame into the hands of AI and then releasing it like that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. All in all, at best this needs far more balancing and time in the oven to make it actually fun to play. Think to yourself: "Would players, new and old, really enjoy all these new mechanics that are a complete change from the main game and all these over the top enemy arenas?" Because maybe it's better if you just made your own game, mate.

It breathes new life into the game. It’s obvious that the vanilla version feels far too casual and unengaging. I love hard QTEs. You literally have to frame-perfect the timings; it's insane. Every mistake breaks your stamina. What I don't like is the balance, the fonts, and certain UI elements that don't match the main interface. Obvious bugs - like camera shaking during sex scenes, UI overlapping, etc. need fixing. Looking forward to updates...

This is a mod with quiet a few pitfalls :- stiff AI voice acting, wonky balance, and not a clear direction. However I can clearly see the effort put into this is real and that the dev has passion. I just wish parts of the mod were modular so that people can turn whatever they dislike off until they're fixed.
