Obscura

Like the poster said below, great game, the art style is very pleasant to look at, the story is incredibly fluid, and the attention to detail in the world-building is nice as well, definitely worth the wait.

Giving a 5 star review as I genuinely loved the game and am looking forward to seeing it completed, and because the only other reviewer gives a misguided impression with an honestly unfair review. Imagine playing an Otome game, a dating sim with exclusively male love interests, and giving it a 1 star review because it's exactly what's advertised... Maybe look at the game's page first before downloading? Obscura is an Otome* game with four Male Love Interests (LI), all of which have great writing and art/designs. You do have the capacity to chose the gender your player character (PC) is, as well as choices like clothing or whatnot throughout the game. Your capacity for choice in regards to expression/roleplay is quite good with more agency in how you explore the overall story as well as within your relationship with the LI than your typical Otome. This makes the relationships with said LIs feel more dynamic and personal as they react to your choices. The protagonist has a more sardonic personality, which I personally find entertaining and easy to 'step into the shoes of', they have great back and forth with all of the LIs as well as with the occasional side character. Personally, I really enjoy playing as them and am invested in finding a cure for their ailment. The writing is genuinely excellent! Some of the best I've seen from Otome games, and the world building is fantastic. I personally have loved what I've played so far, one of the few dating sim games where I love all of the LIs, and am looking forward to the final chapters. I won't get too into each of the LIs' routes, as they're all still incomplete, but the Thief and his excellently written crew of sidekicks and back and forth banter with the protagonist, and the incredibly toxic relationship you can have with the sadistic bdsm Priest, left a great impression! I played the game a few months ago and still think about it which is massive props for a dating sim tbh. Also, absolutely massive, massive, praise for the gorgeous art! Every character looks gorgeous, the backgrounds are gorgeous, the CGs are gorgeous. Truly beautiful game! In regards to adult content; Obscura has (currently) mild adult content, being that one of the LIs has BDSM scenes. I know the Devs had potential plans for more adult content in the final chapter of the game (the game is currently at Chapter 2 of 3), but the CC porn bans and rule changes on Itch.io and Steam (where the game is currently listed for early access) made things uncertain for them. I doubt the Devs are knowledgeable about this forum, but it would be a massive shame to lose out on sexual content in a game by female developers for players attracted to men. This kind of adult game; playable female protagonist who can develop relationships and have sex with actually attractive male NPCs, with consideration towards what women find desirable, is exceedingly rare in the adult game scene. *Otome games are technically dating sims by women for women, with female protagonists and male love interests. Obscura let's you pick the gender of the protagonist, which makes it more of a 'dating sim' and not an Otome technically, but I feel like it still captures the spirit of Otome games just fine, in that it's by women to a majority female playerbase with exclusively Male LIs.

v2.1.0 Setting for the story is pretty intriguing. World seems dark, full of mystery and interesting to explore. Menu-mini-games did not make the experience better. Writing does pretty good job at keeping the reader on toes. Characters did feel interesting, but sadly there was no female characters on major roles. The relationships with the male characters did start to be little too gay for me, so i lost interest on the guys also. (I did play male character.) I did not encounter any sexual content with female characters. All the main characters were male. All the side characters had just shape that was fully blacked. I don´t know what the game is trying to be, but for me it was just a book with few atmospheric pictures.
