The Chosen Varia

I went in with some hope since I absolutely love the OP hero/harem trope, but man there is an oceans worth of work to be done. The characters feel cut and copied from other, better pieces of work. It wants to be a vengeance/school/fantasy game and it can't pull it off. Also the writing is really bad. With all of the resources (especially the free ones) that are out there, how can the grammar be so bad? If you need a background for the text so you have to contrast it doesn't exist. I could have given this an average rating but that is how distracting the errors are. Also the time skipping is pretty jarring. All in all I'm giving it a "Poor" rating until it can fix its issues.

I'm enjoying the story of this VN. It's not particularly original -- the MC has prodigious abilities in a world where abilities are not uncommon, and they were awakened in response to a traumatic experience. I like the MC's personality and those of his friends, and I have a soft spot for harem stories. There are no battle mechanics: this is a more story-focused VN, with decisions that mostly determine which LIs the MC pursues. As the villains are gradually revealed, they seem to pose a meaningful challenge to MC's developing abilities. I'm not much of a judge of graphics, so you'll have to look to other reviews to get feedback on those. My only complaint about this VN is the dire need for an editor to correct all the various spelling and/or usage mistakes in the dialogues and other texts. Even just running the text through the free version of grammarly, or even google docs would make it easy to correct a lot of what's wrong, either that, or get somebody to proofread the text for you. If this game continues to be enjoyable, I may talk myself into providing free editing until the dev(s) can get enough traction to hire a professional.
