U7S Review of Callsign: Wolf_ Callsign: Wolf_ by NightQuil_ is one of the absolute better "demo for a v0.1" I've ever seen. Despite only around 5~ months of experience with being a dev, learning HS2, learning coding, etc... the demo here is absolutely brimming with potential. That isn't to say it's perfect, but rather just about every "negative" I saw during this demo could easily be chalked up to "brand new dev who doesn't know how to do such things yet." Examples of this would be things like guns not having muzzle flashes, blood effects/squirts coming from characters, etc. All things that can be easily fixed and improved upon simply with the knowledge that it exists and can be done. The Good General setting/story Potential to the moon Banter and interactions between characters Subtle humor which landed quite well for me Action scenes well done Smart, tight writing that doesn't overwhelm you Amazing cinematography for a "5 months demo" (camera placements, an animated crane shot into MC reveal, etc) The Bad Several instances of characters, especially the MC, not looking at what/where he should be looking (eyes get reset back to default position in Studio, causing MC to blankly look straight ahead when he should not be) The Personal (These are personal opinions/nitpicks that most likely are just a "me" thing and the majority wouldn't care, and shouldn't be counted towards the score. In kase you're a weirdo like me, some of this may matter to you.) Very few transitions used throughout. Almost all renders are just immediately cut to the next one without any kind of "with Dissolve(0.5)" used, as if forced to play with "Disabled Transitions" in the main menu settings When it comes to "military-esque special ops forces/groups", some may expect a certain level of "professionalism" that should come with it. During a very important call/meeting with their Commander, there was a bit too much "these characters aren't taking this seriously whatsoever" and it took me out a bit. To be more exact: During this meeting, a squadmade (clearly a future Love Interest) thought the MC was ignoring her, and proceded to do the typical "LI getting ignored by MC" whining, just in the middle of this very important military call. Several lines of "is MC ignoring me?" "MC, you know I didn't mean it like it..." "Hey [other squad member], MC is ignoring me!!!" All of this is done while other characters, like the MC, are still trying to talk about this super important military mission all the while this other girl keeps going on about this until the MC finally has to acknowledge her whining. These things may not bother you but if I'm going into "military super secret ops" game, things like this are highly immersion breaking for me because it's just children playing spec ops rather than "serious, professional spec ops". I'm not saying these interactions itself are bad, just the WHEN it is happening (which is literally in the middle of super important military spec ops meeting and I guess the Commander is just listening to this like "???") Anyway, Callsign: Wolf_ is an amazing first showing and I cannot wait to come back for more! The sky is the limit for someone this talented in such a short offering.
