Companion of Darkness is an adult visual novel by Berkili4, made with Ren'Py and presented through animated 3D CG art. You play a male protagonist who comes back to his hometown after a tragic event three years earlier. Before he arrives, he sees two supernatural powers battle to the death. He is found and easily overcome, then wakes in bed as if nothing happened. Life continues while strange events increase, and when people close to him are threatened, he must decide which limits he will cross and whether giving up humanity is worth it. This thriller-mystery story changes direction based on choices, with harem elements.
Development is ongoing. The current build is Season 2 - Chapter 12.5 Itch, released May 26, 2026 for Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android in English, uncensored. The latest changelog calls this the largest half-chapter so far and says it adds new systems for players to test, with the creator asking for feedback on how they work in play.
Developer's description
3 years after a tragic incident, you return to your hometown. Just before you reach your destination, you watch as two supernatural forces pit their strength against each other in a fight to the death.
It seems that you have been discovered and effortlessly overwhelmed, but instead of dying you wake up in your bed as if nothing had happened.
Was it all a dream?
Everyday life goes on whether you like it to or not. Not only do you feel like a stranger in your hometown, more and more unexplainable events are happening around you.
When the ones you care for are threatened, you must decide which boundaries you are willing to cross. And, if it is worth to give up humanity.

Season 2 Chapter 12.5
This is the biggest half-chapter so far, and honestly, I think it might also be the best one yet, though of course, I’m not exactly unbiased. How could I be?
I’m really excited to hear what everyone thinks about this one, because it includes some new systems that I’ve been working on for a while. I’m especially looking forward to feedback on how they feel in actual play, what works well, and what still needs improving.
Either way, I’m very happy to finally share this half-chapter with you.
Thank you all for the support, patience, and feedback. It really helps me keep the game going and continue improving it.
Season 2 - Chapter 12
And again, Chapter 12 is by far the biggest chapter yet ( I never learn).
Season 2 - Chapter 11.5
You might be wondering, why make a big announcement for just half a chapter?
Well… this “half” turned out so big it could almost count as a full one.
I actually planned to keep chapters shorter, but Patreon supporters voted overwhelmingly for the longer format: So here we are!
If you’ve been on the fence about checking out the half chapters, now’s the perfect time.
Trust me, it’s worth it.
Season 2 - Chapter 11
And again, Chapter 11 is by far the biggest chapter yet. (I hope this doesn't become a habit.)
Season 2 - Chapter 10 adds
Joke's on me, Chapter 10 is even bigger than Chapter 9. It also marks the beginning of Season 2.
Also the first Season (Chapter 1-9) has been grammatically revised and improved. So if you're looking for a reason to replay, or were unsure if you wanted to check it out in the first place, now is the perfect time.
Season 1

Bugfixes: Big bug fixed that let the player continue playing even though it shouldn't be possible.
Not sleeping with Amy should lead to always losing the fight against 3. But if you slept with candy and turned amy down, it also allowed you to continue playing. Which technically shouldn't happen. this is now fixed
Chapter 6 adds
- Over additional 1300 additional renders.
Chapter 1 Reworked
- Over additional 1300 additional renders. Reworked all animations from Chapter 1. New choices, story reworked.
