About Human Interest

Human Interest is a text-based RPG sandbox from NACRElixir, using the Others engine. You play a human who inherits a factory in Kessmarck, a port city populated by kin of many breeds, where humans can only live with a license, bank with a sponsor, and own property under a kin's name. Arriving with little money, you stay with a childhood friend and her mother, pay off the estate, seek a backer, rebuild the Works, and learn why the city restricts humans while many women take notice of you. It includes character creation, fantasy setting, and management.

The current public build is version 0.1, released on October 23, 2026 for Windows in English, with no censorship. Development is ongoing, and character portraits are planned for 0.2. This first week begins with the train arrival, the Finance and Property Bureau terms, a visit to the factory and alley, encounters on the streets, evenings at home, and the first rent day. Systems include survival needs, jobs, and an optional Ironman mode.

Developer's description

Your uncle is dead, and he left you his factory. The catch: it's in Kessmarck, a port city full of kin of every breed, where humans are tolerated at best. A human here can't live anywhere without a license, can't bank without a sponsor, and can't own a single brick without a kin's name beside his. You arrive with two dollars, a borrowed room in your childhood friend's house, and a rent book kept by her mother. Pay off the estate, find a backer, rebuild the factory, and find out why this city keeps humans on a leash... and why so many of its women seem so interested in you. A text-based game for now. Character portraits arrive in 0.2.

English isn't my first language, so I use AI as an editor and proofreader. Some minor flavor text (places, shops, odd jobs) is AI-drafted and will be rewritten as development goes on. The art assets, including the portraits coming in 0.2, are AI-assisted placeholders that will be replaced once the game has enough support.
