Irreverent Heresy

I think this game deserves a honest review. Rating is extremely difficult but I decided to stress the good things rather than the obvious shortcomings. The main success of Irreverent Heresy (I do not think it is an adequate title but who am I to write this...) is the mix of horror and porn in a rather logical way (at first glance with suspension of disbelief), the porn is required to progress in the plot. Second good point : there is an atmosphere and it is also coherent with the theme. After that it goes from acceptable to bad. The models are generally plain (except one or two) but this depends on personal taste (and I am allergic to MILFs who are the most frequently abused here), at least they have some personality and seemingly individual strategy. I would have liked more agency for Veronica and the daughters... The Shadow mage is really poorly designed and characterized. And Marcos abruptly disappears... Not even Average :The story itself while atmospheric is very poorly finished, there are illogical situations, unexplained deux ex machina, repetitions and I doubt it fully respects player choices. There were plenty of things I would have tried which were logical but were not available. The kinks are for sadistic gourmets (other should not even try it) which is good but it was not technically satisfactory (due to the engine I would say). The idea of tarot cards in the plot was excellent but gives nothing unfortunately... Bad : the renders, even if the choice of Black and White is acceptable most often it is too dark and blurry (notably the juicy parts...), I was constantly redoing the renders in my head (light here, contrast, angles, DOF), the cum textures are so awful that they almost kill the kinkiest mood. Clearly Honey select variants (I guess in this case) are now totally outdated and what was acceptable 10 years ago is a no go in 2025. Very bad : the awful English translation, I should have played in Spanish, the problems with pronouns is appalling and disheartening even for the most willing players. I keep the 4 mark in spite of all the bad stuff because some poor choices are the results of design and story context. It is worth a technical 3 at best, but it is complete AND the proposed kinks are not so frequent. I appreciate the risks taken and the initial effort by the author. It could have been a masterpiece, sadly a near miss.

The graphics, atmosphere and especially the female characters are very unique in their own style. It deserves a 5 star rating but why doesn't this game get more attention? Scene gallery is too much and it will satisfy you (if you play this game just to fap)

(Review for v0.8) The story is too chaotic and becomes boring enough that I started skipping after the grimoire is revealed; for me it's merely a vehicle to put together a number of sex scenes in black & white, the way the novella is presented. At the end of each one you are provided with some controls to replay parts of it and go to the next animation, if any. Characters range from decent to downright ugly. The only positive I can think of is the amount of different perversions that are depicted, including rapings, incest, demonic shit and bestiality. Some stuff is optional, in fact most if not all choices appear to be a way to trigger/hide some scenes and that's it. Artwork is pretty decent but I don't know how much of it is original. An average game for me.

It's off to a good start. Lots of quality perversion going on, and not all of it is in the imagination of the characters. I'll be watching how this one progresses. Playing some of his older games is recommended but not required, and you'll have to do some translating on your own because genders are frequently misplaced due to the author using machine translation.

And ve-e-e-ery complicated... -Story, Originality Mystic stuff and billion characters (I sometimes forget who is who). -Renders Okayish 3D models, but too much visual effects and there is always some blurry or color filter. -Sound Basic sounds and music + some h-sounds. Please make default volume smaller, got my eardrums destroyed -Playability Played it once and still don't understand most of it... -Performance Runs like an average Ren'Py game. -Bugs Probably got stuck in an infinite loop while trying to skip h-scene. -Animations Some animations with progression and different camera views. And h-scene interface is a little clunky. -Voice Acting Didn't hear any, only h-sounds sometimes. -Grammar Didn't see any mistakes. -Amount of content Dozens of animations with hundreds different loops in them. It definitely became a lot better, but I still feel that h-scenes are a little stiff and inconvenient to rewatch. Good game if you like long visual novels with a lot of characters and complicated plot.
