Developer Note:
Have a blast playing this!
I played through Chapter One and, while I wouldn’t say it was bad, I came away still having very little idea what the actual story is supposed to be about. For example, why is the MC renting a room in that house in the first place? Maybe it was explained and I missed it, but right now it feels like I was dropped into the middle of something without enough context. My biggest issue, though, is the MC. So far he comes across as another weak, clueless, self-doubting protagonist who is only a tough guy inside his own head. There are already a lot of AVNs with this type of MC, and personally I’m getting a little tired of it. What makes it stranger is that he suddenly seems to grow a pair when he’s having sex with Lila or when confronting the police. The change feels too abrupt and doesn’t really match how he behaves the rest of the time. I’d much rather see some balance in his personality. He doesn’t need to be constantly doubting himself, but he also doesn’t need to turn into an insufferable asshole either. There’s plenty of room between those two extremes. Visually, the MC could also use some work. Compared to the other characters, he looks a little too plastic and doesn’t show much emotion. I think a rework of his model and expressions sooner rather than later would help quite a bit. On the positive side, the renders are nice, and I definitely appreciate having music throughout the chapter. It does a good job of helping set the mood in different scenes. The animations aren’t bad either, although the constant zooming in and out during them can get a little distracting after a while. Overall, Chapter One wasn’t bad, but there’s definitely room for improvement, particularly with the MC and giving the player a clearer idea of what the story is actually building toward. That said, there was enough here to keep me interested, and I’ll definitely be playing Chapter Two to see where it goes.
