Brother, I extend to you an invitation to join the Lucent Priory as our newest scribe. The Cantor has selected you from many worthy souls. Here you will work with our skilled arcanists to create the next great Incantation—a powerful tome of magic crafted by many minds together. You shall study various scholarly fields. Though challenging at first, take heart; other new Brothers will join you, helping each other adjust to priory life. I enclose 10 silver coins for your journey to Starfall Isle. Please arrive before spring begins. May the Sisters guide you, Father Orson Prior of the Lucent Priory

v0.4.6.1 N/A v0.4.5.2 N/A v0.4.1.3 Various bug fixes. v0.4.1.2 Added the scene that was missing in 0.4.1.1. Various bug and inconsistency fixes. v0.4.1.1 A script of around 16,000 additional words. NOTE: There is one scene that has not been finalized yet (the writing part only; the art is there already). It will be included in its entirety in the Scribe release. A good part of the update are scenes unlockable only to playthroughs in which the MC has romanced Orson and/or (to a lesser extent, but significant) Rehan. I have a feeling only a tiny fraction of players did not actively pursue the Prior, but if one of them is you, you might want to consider giving it a try for this update in particular. Even though this update encompasses the first day, as in earlier Chapters, the elective scenes you can do in the mornings and afternoons will be added progressively through various updates, and so the current update is not representative of everything you will be able to do on Chapter 4 Mountainsday. 11 new CGs, both static and animated. The Revelations gallery will be added in the Scribe release. Various bug fixes, inconsistency fixes, and writing revisions and edits. Hotfix 3/1: Fixed a bug where the game would think you had Soren arrested no matter what. This bug was at the beginning of the Saheilan service section in Chapter 3. So, if you are planning to romance Soren in Chapter 4, you will need to replay this section again. Fixed a graphical bug affecting some MC models in a CG in Chapter 4. Fixed a graphical bug affecting MCs possessing the Bravery skill in some playthroughs. v0.3.2 17,000 words. Make sure to try out the optional scenes with some of the novices, and if you have time, play through again with different decisions. Some innocuous scenes branch in this one. 6 CGs (animated and static) You will see that some of these are still a work in progress as of 0.3.2.1. Hoping to refine them by next update. One of the scenes from the art sneak peek is missing and has been moved to the Scribe update on December 14th. It's just not done yet the way I want it to be. Library boy lovers, it's gonna be 2 more weeks. Drama (for most playthroughs). Bug, graphics, and inconsistency fixes for Chapter 3, as well as earlier chapters. v0.3.1.3 Added the Revelations gallery for this update. Bug, inconsistency, and typo fixes. v0.3.1.2 Added the missing scene in Soren's cell for certain playthroughs. Bug, inconsistency, and typo fixes. v0.3.1 A whole bunch of new written scenes (about 18,000 words). 5 new CGs. 7 new backgrounds. A big decision that branches the story ahead. v0.2.8.1 initial zone release

It would be really easy to dismiss this game as just another VN or on account of the AI art but it it genuinely brilliant. The world is detailed, the story is intriguing and original, the characters are well written and feel very distinct from one another. Your choices as a player feel significant and impactful but without creating plot branches that are impossible to resolve. My only real criticism of Canticle, is the mixed bag that is the art. The author's art direction is genuinely impressive and fits the style of the game well (especially the stained glass and illuminated text used when reading books or learning about world history). The character art, though, runs into many of the issues with AI art gen, although to a lesser extent than most games on this site (weird body proportions and jarringly impossible lighting). The worst problem is unfortunately with the sex scenes because dicks look like they've been poorly drawn on after, and the animations range from bad (Ch2 Ciaran) to okay. Despite criticising, let's face it, the main draw for most people on this site, I still think Canticle deserves 5/5 because it does everything else so well, I wanted to play more regardless.

I must say that at first the "AI cg" tag put me off, I try to steer clear of it as much as possible, knowing the terrible quality of most games using it. But I was pleasantly surprised. There is clearly a lot of passion and attention to detail in this game. It is engaging, interesting and most importantly, varied. Each image is painstakingly detailed, the characters are lovable and unique, the story is complex and stunning, it leads you to understand more without spoonfeeding you. It leaves you with so many questions and twice as many theories, it feels like a great game with some porn sprinkled here and there, which I really enjoy, the scenes are not absurd nor forced, it feels realistic and the writing is excellent. It feels like I'm singing the praises of this game, but I really believe it's a great project, developed with a lot of talent and passion. The only thing I found a little frustrating is that there is no way to be sure you've found everything during an investigation scene, a counter would be useful there. I can't wait to see how it will be developed further.

This one is difficult to recommend in its current state. Partially, because there isn't enough unique content yet beyond a lot of text. But also because it's another instance of too much text, not enough elements that demand your attention. I think we should all agree that having to advance dialogue (click or enter key) after nearly every single sentence in a long, inane, perhaps overly self-indulgent monologue or conversation, gets old very, very quickly. Waaaay too many games are guilty of this. This game has great ideas and the premise is appealing, but it's so difficult to enjoy it when the feeling you get playing the game, is closer to cookie clicker. What's worse, is that the game forces your eyes to glaze over because the majority of the single sentences you have to click through are uninteresting, such that you end up missing genuinely important information to the plot itself. Let's add to that, seeing the history requires more clicks than it should (have to go to the menu first), back buttons are unavailable from screens where a decision is needed, and there is no auto-forward of text button. The most common gameplay loop is: 1) click wildly to get through all the dialogue you don't care about, 2) get a decision screen that you can't click back from, 3) go to menu to access the history to even see what you're deciding on, 4) make decision, 5) repeat... I wouldn't bother to review if the game had no merit, there's plenty to like. But if writers are going to insist on so . much . boring . dialogue . with characters you're not interested in (maybe don't force that me to talk to characters I don't want to), then they absolutely cannot force your input after each sentence. It's tantamount to torture, with a side of carpal tunnel. I remain hopeful that the content gets richer (it hard cut me to the menu when it ran out, on the cusp of something interesting happening but doesn't yet). I am less confident in the creator adjusting the existing problems with the overall experience (mostly because I assume it would take some effort to do so). Summary: There isn't much here yet to genuinely intrigue, and the experience is too rote for your time.

It's not my type as I'm looking for audio (people speaking) and I had a bad experience with the game and I'm not going into full details. I do like the images and mini games but either than that it's a no for me.

Simply awesome I love the art, the character design and development, the mysteries are great, minigames not annoying (which is an achieviement itself) and I would even say enjoyable. The guys are just awesome cant wait for more action

Probably the best gay game, I've played and it's still in the beginning phases. Better writing than any VN I've played on here by miles and miles and miles and miles, interesting plot, cast full of genuinely hot guys. A lot of pretty in-depth role-playing options, and satisfying interactions. By far the most impressive part to me is the UI, which is polished to an extent that I don't even see in VN releases put out by professional studios. It does seem to use AI for graphics, but implemented cleverly. There's this storybook portrait effect that gives it just enough of a sheen to some less strictly realistic, while enhancing the sexy factor. It does a really good job of making the VN look less like some of the more trashy stuff out there. You can tell a lot of effort went into the creative vision behind this. I am genuinely one of those people who hates AI for aesthetic and moral and practical reasons, but I'm totally fine with it here. The average "AI artist" is a complete idiot with gaudy awful taste. The developer has a really, really good sense for aesthetic. It's not to say there aren't problems - some pieces of art feel mismatched from either the character model or the broader setting if you really pay close attention. The worst part, though, is the dicks. Sex scenes are otherwise incredibly written, but I have the sense that whatever image generation the dev is using to get these beautiful faces and bodies restricts them from generating sexual content. The dicks are not particularly pretty or proportional, they look glued onto each scene. I'm genuinely hoping they improve over time (and maybe that one or two of the scenes get re-done) but honestly the rest of the game is so awesome that it only takes it from a 5 stars to a 4.9. Give this a try and consider joining the patreon! I already have and I plan to continue supporting.

The short review: originally showed up for smut, stayed for the plot The longer review: I genuinely had a blast with this game. I know a lot of people have a bone to pick with AI art, and there are some moments when the art feels a bit janky (mostly thinking of Jude's glasses in general), but that all aside the game is surprisingly solid. There's a lot of fun mini games that didnt feel like they were there for busy work. Choices and you background actually have an effect on the story. Without spoiling it too much, your background gives you some perspectives that you otherwise wouldnt have access to, and the decisions you make actually have a noticeable impact. I think the best part about the story for me is how it isn't just a simple "religion bad" especially since you play as a monk in a fantasy world. the story is a murder mystery and maybe you are a genius and I'm a horny idiot, but some of the surprises about some of the characters caught me off guard in a good way. I spent a lot of time making mental theories and it paid off. Now for the romances [look, I'm not writing a formatted essay here, just a love letter to the dev]. I think theyre all adorable in their own ways. They're a tiny bit cliche, but I kinda think its sweet and I enjoy it, especially since first off this story isnt done, and second, pretty much everyone's not telling you the full story. There's a trust system that you gotta build up to and even then, there's....well thats spoilers. I dont tend to type here, infact you probably wont find any comments from me because I dont really engage too hard here, but I do genuninely recommend thisif you're willing to give it a chance.

An absolutely gorgeous game, the art style fits the premise of the game being in a monastery. I don't know if the graphics are AI created but even if they are I personally hold nothing against AI graphics as long as they make the game immersive and finding the characters beautiful and attractive make it immersive for me (especially MC, Ciaran and Ivar!). The mini games are just the right difficulty to not hinder the pace of the game and the story is engaging (though a bit tragic for me personally). A very promising start!

This is one of the best ongoing gay games around right now. A clever plot, good characters, a genuine sense of humor, mini-games that don't suck and, of course, very solid sexy scenes. If you want an example of how AI images can be the basis of something much, much better than the raw images, this might be the game that changes your mind on that score. Highly recommended. I believe in this one so much that I joined the Patreon. I can't offer higher praise than that.
